Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm." - Winston Churchill

This will be a very  brief post because I'm somewhere between punch drunk and asleep. We left the house at 3:50 a.m. and stopped about three hours later in Medford at a Denny's for breakfast. Pam had packed a picnic lunch that we ate at a rest stop somewhere in NoCal, and we had dinner at an In-n-Out north of Bakersfield. Also took about a 20 break at another rest stop where I tried to nap on the grass (too hot in the car) but the flies made that impossible. We drove another hour past dinner to a Motel 6 just south of Lebec where we are now. Fourteen hours, 800-odd miles, but no issues or incidents.

We've got about 6-12 hours more driving to do tomorrow, and that spread depends entirely on how bad the traffic is going through LA. We'll hit Pasadena an hour into tomorrow's drive, the beginning of the ordeal. If we get out of here about 5 a.m. we *may* have the worst of it done by 8 a.m. But I don't remember when rush hour starts in LA, so it may be noon before we're out the other side of the valley. From there to Phoenix is another 6 hours.

The drive through the central CA valley is THE WORST, especially here at the southern end of the valley. We went 15-20 miles at a time with absolutely nothing. No exits, no structures, no nothing. Acres of trees of some sort and general barrenness. We'll get more of that tomorrow between Palm Springs and Phoenix, but at least that points east, to the kids, not south. It will feel like progress.

Should the goat shed/barn be called Chateau de Chevon? Or Casa de Cabras?

OK, that's all I've got. I'm wasted and need to get some shut-eye for tomorrow's drive.
