"When a man opens a car door for his wife it's either a new car or a new wife." - Prince Phillip
After posting last night about my tooth I decided I really did need to do something about it lest I get to Seattle and have the kind of tooth pain that makes focusing on ministry impossible. But how to find a dentist? I sent an email to Brett, the pastor of University Fellowship Church where we've been attending recently asking if he had a recommendation; pastoring a church of almost 1,000 means he likely knows local professionals.
I heard back within the hour! (He's good.) He gave me three recommendations, two of whom attend UFC and the dentist he uses. Two are closed on Fridays but a call first thing this morning got me in for a 9:30 appt.
The good news: it was a crown that came off. Unfortunately, it wasn't just the cement that failed; the tooth broke below that line. But Dr. Fredrickson was able to clean it up and glue it back in place. He said this may or may not work for the long term, but we'll deal with that if/when the time comes. Meanwhile, I'm good for Sunday's responsibilities.
I was prepared for a budget-buster, but while it wasn't a bill we'd planned on it won't make a mess of the finances.
Thanks, Brett, thank you, Dr. Fredrickson, and t'ank you, Fadder!
I got an email today from Wells Fargo - we bank there - with a subject line reading, "Shop with confidence using your Visa Platinum Card." I don't have one.
Wait, maybe I do.
I am not surprised Donald Trump is a sleazy womanizer who objectifies them for his sexual gratification and acts in thoroughly inappropriate ways with them. What will surprise me is if the few believers I know who still openly promote his candidacy continue to do so.
Eugene has a good classical music station that does something I particularly like. The afternoon guy does theme playlists. Yesterday he played a series of short pieces by different composers named after the months of the year, going from January to June. Today he did a playlist of performances by child prodigies that included a violin concerto by a 14-year old Yehudi Menuhin (b. 1916; d. 1999). Good grief. I recognized the piece but can't remember the name. Flying fingers!
Good classical station; the state's political environment, not so much. Our governor is bisexual, with a husband and a girlfriend. That pretty much describes the moral atmosphere of this place.
Then there's the pot industry that now legally sells "edibles," many that look just like regular candies and desserts sold on the market.
Arrests for drug affected driving (I think it's still called DUI) are up 86% since pot was legalized, but the advocates say that's not a cause/effect dynamic.
Right.
We'll leave about 5:30 tomorrow morning and stop in Harrisburg for b'fast at a favorite one-off joint that's only open until 2 p.m. each day. We should be in Seattle by early afternoon in time to visit with the folks before dinner with them in the dining room of the Ida Culver House where they live. Overnight at my brother and SIL's place, then Sunday's efforts. I'm both eager and nervous. Pretty much like I am whenever I preach or teach.
The chickens have full feed and water containers, all the tools are locked in the shed, but I still have to pack my things. We should be back by mid-afternoon Monday if traffic doesn't get crazy and I hope to burn the HUGE slash pile Tuesday, pending approval from the State Dept. of Forestry first thing that morning. While it's burning I'll make the power connections for the goat shed electric, which will finish off that project.
I'll also stack wood. I did some of that this afternoon and decided that if I spend an hour or two each day working on the piles of wood I split I should have it all stacked in about five years.
