I spoke too soon re. the dog's digestive problems, so he's back on rice broth for another 24 hours or so. If it doesn't work this time we'll have to take him to the vet. Ugh.
The grass seed I put down has germinated, but isn't growing well. Not for lack of rain! So we have broad expanses of muddy ground with a pale green tint.
I recently read the following statistics about the public's views on the national media (from the Media Research Center):
- 69% do not believe the news media are honest or truthful
- 78% believe the coverage of the presidential campaign was biased.
- 59% believe it was biased in favor of Clinton, 21% in favor of Trump
- 32% of Clinton voters think it was biased in favor of Clinton
- 97% said they did not let media bias affect their vote
Of course, I read these survey results in the media, so there's that.
We got a break from the rain this afternoon and I took advantage of it to clean out the chicken coop. That's not my favorite task on Baker Rd. so it's nice to have it done for awhile.
As long as I was at it I turned the compost pile, which rates right up there with cleaning out the coop.
I did not go for my run this afternoon. I increased the distance this week and yesterday didn't go well so I decided to make this a rest day. Yeah, that's why I stayed home.
We're tentatively planning on doing a New Year's Eve run in Eugene. It starts at 11:59 on 12/31 and goes along bike trails for both the 5k and 10k. They repeat both runs at 10 a.m. on 1/1 with the option to do both and get a special ribbon (whoohoo). You have to preregister so I can't wait to see what the weather will be. I should probably just plan on a cold rain; it is western Oregon, after all.
For the midnight run you get a glow stick to wear so you're visible to other runners. But how do you see the bike path??
When I was in Africa I noticed with interest that they all have those LED flashlights on headbands so they can see when they walk the trails from one house to the next at the compound outside of Mumba. It allows them to have both hands free as they walk. That seems like a good idea for this run, too, and would probably be handy out here on Baker Rd. for getting to the goat pen in the middle of the night.
