The freezing rain started about midnight and by midmorning we had over half an inch coating everything. The snow started at 9:30 and continued all day so that by early evening we had about 4". This place is not equipped to handle any amount; no street plows, no salt trucks. The airport shut down because they can't clear the runways and every event of any kind got cancelled. We got an email that they'll decide by 7 a.m. tomorrow if church will happen but we've decided not to go even if they have a service. Roads out here will still be snow covered and icy, and we're in the hills. Nope.
Stuck inside is not my preferred way to spend a day. This afternoon I took the cleaning supply bucket back to the bathroom and went to work just to DO something. Then I walked up to the mailbox knowing I wouldn't find anything there. We haven't had any mail delivery since Wednesday, the same day the trash guy didn't come (ours is still out at the end of our driveway), and I continue to get "Delivery Delay" emails from UPS.
One of my
I also start second guessing myself.
Uh-oh, is this OK, or is it offensive to someone?
Years of being a pastor and having to (legitimately) worry about how everything might affect the sheep is hard to turn off.
One of the things I really like is the relationship I have with almost all of the people from my churches and my students. I told Pam today (and she readily agreed) that each of our churches was made up overwhelmingly of people who didn't take themselves too seriously, but did take the important stuff seriously. It was the rare exception to have someone who easily and quickly took offense at anything. That allowed us to enjoy each others' company, kid each other, and laugh a lot, sometimes at each other. You can have a lot more fun with someone if you don't have to worry about giving offense and don't take offense. So yes, I get mocked some, and often knowingly set myself up for it. As long as it can freely go both ways I take it as an indication of the bond we have.
As long as we're at it, why do so many people assume this country life is my choice and not OUR choice? Think about it; that disses her. It says she's so passive, so wimpy, that she'd allow herself to be dragged to someplace or something she didn't want.
OK, maybe I need a good night's sleep.
