"In politics, stupidity is not a handicap." - Napoleon Bonaparte

Another one stolen from Facebook.

I heard a story on NPR this morning about a study done by researchers with more time and (grant) money than they should have. This particular group of scientists asked if our consciences respond like our eyes.
When we go out in bright light our eyes struggle at first, but then adjust so that after a minute or two everything seems normal. Do our brains do that, specifically when we tell a lie? Does our conscience adjust so that the twinge we feel when we tell a lie diminishes if/when the lies pile up?
They hooked up wires and took pictures of people's brains as they told whoppers with increasing frequency, and sure enough, the folks' brains adjusted so that their internal bells and whistles didn't go off disturbing their conscience.

Did we really need a study? Is this something any 6th grader couldn't have predicted?
Then there's 1 Timothy 4:2, "...through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared."
But I'm guessing these lab coat types don't spend a lot of time talking to 6th graders or reading the Bible.

Atty. General Jeff Sessions said cities that pass "Sanctuary Cities" and refuse to cooperate with federal agents in detaining suspected illegal immigrants could face the loss of federal grant money. Seems like a fair quid pro quo to me, but some majors are outraged, including Rohm Emmanuel, mayor of Chicago who said everyone who aspires to the American dream is welcome in his city.
That would be the city that people are fleeing in record numbers, the city with a murder rate that's made international headlines (468 in 2015, a 12.5% increase over the previous year, despite tough gun control laws), and the city that desperately needs federal grant money.

Chris & Jessica Herring attended Pathway. Chris's brother, wife, and three young boys moved here to Eugene from Long Beach CA about a year ago and Chris, Jessica, and their little guy Henry are up to visit them. Today the whole crew made a trip out to see us and our "farm."
Woot!!
I got a text a little before 10 that said they were running a little late but were on their way. Jessica said the boys were all dressed in camo gear, had flashlights, survival bracelets, and boots, ready for the zombie apocalypse. Hilarious!
They were perhaps a bit over dressed for our  hike into the woods on the other side of the creek, but you can never be too prepared.

I read an article on USAToday.com about rule changes the NFL has approved. One of them:
"Touchbacks on free kicks will now result in the ball being placed on the 25-yard line for one year."
And here I thought they were trying to speed things up.

We had visitors on Baker Rd. today! Chris, Jessica, and Henry were part of Pathway back in AZ. Chris's brother and his family (Mike, Mindy, and their three boys) joined them out here in the woods to see the goats, the chickens and go for a hike in our woods on the far side of the creek. We saw the spring (LOTS of water this year), deer tracks, and moss everywhere. Then we went for pizza at Countryside and got all caught up.
In the small world department, Mike & Mindy also attend UFC, so we see them at church most Sundays.
Fun time.
