"That money talks, I won't deny. I heard it once; it said 'Goodbye'." - Richard Armour
An October-like day here with showers, 20 mph winds, and temps just above "light a fire in the wood stove" level.
Nobody seems to know where my pitman arm is. The tracking site shows it's back in its city of origin but the company there says they haven't rec'd it. The lady at the P.O. here says the P.O. there isn't returning her phone calls but she suspects it's still sitting in the Ashton VA P.O. I'll give it another day and then ratchet up my "noise" a couple of notches. Everyone agrees it's not here so getting (another?) one seems like a reasonable demand on my part.
The carpeting in Sally is badly worn. Today I went to Walmart (threw up in my mouth a little) and bought some cheap floor mats. Vacuumed the carpet thoroughly and put in the new mats. Looks very acceptable and will certainly do the trick until it's time (and $$) for new carpet.
I was in Lowe's, too, getting some numbers on the lumber req'd for a project we're considering. Came out to a note under my wiper.
"The wind caught my door and it left a scuff on your car. You can reach me at (telephone number).
Sure enough, a scuff. I rubbed it with my hand and got some of it to come off, and the rest will certainly come off with a little polishing compound. This on an '09 Kia with 139,000 miles on it.
I called the number, identified myself as the guy with the scuffed car, and she said she was still inside the store, would come out to meet me, and immediately started talking about how sorry she was.
Naw, let it go. We've put this car through so much that we're certainly not going to worry about her little scuff.
The relief in her voice was striking. "Oh, thank you!" I told her not one in a hundred would have left a note and she deserved credit for that. And that I hoped her day got better (she was obviously stressed about this).
I only wish I could have seen the look on her face. It was fun to so easily give her that much relief.
Our local PBS channel is doing pledge week...again. But just before it started they aired three Masterpiece Mystery episodes, back-to-back of "Breathless," a British drama set in a London hospital in the late 50's or early 60's. Wow! We recorded it and watched it over three nights, one episode per night. Pam was really upset when it ended because several story lines were left unresolved and there aren't any more episodes. It drew us in, kept us wondering, and we got attached to some of the characters. I hope they do more episodes.
Anybody else see it?
