The good news: the dr. doesn't think my foot isn't broken. He said Xrays can be tricky when it's a stress fracture but he looked at my running shoes (I wore them to the appt. so he could see) and says they're way overdue for replacement and I probably have strained tendons as a result. So early this morning I ordered a new pair from the REI website. Never ordered shoes online before but they have a very good return policy as explained to me by the gal I talked to via their 800 number so I'm not too concerned. Great price on a shoe model from a couple of years back, but what do I care?

The dr. said when I go back to running (as soon as the shoes arrive) I'll either continue improving or the pain will get worse. If the latter happens it's a stress fracture and a boot for a month is in order.
That won't happen.

It got down to 29 last night. Question: if MoHo is 57 degrees when I get up which do I address first, the need for a fire in the wood stove or the need for hot coffee in my belly? (I went with the fire.)

I think one of our 10 Rhode Island Red hens is a Henry based on the arched tail feathers emerging. I haven't heard any crowing except from Spike, but if you saw how big he is you'd understand that any other rooster might want to keep his sexual identity on the down-low.
Alternatively, this is Oregon, so we could have almost anything going on.

On the subject of Oregon politics, here's a map showing voting results for a recent governor's race. Red is GOP, blue Democratic.
Blue also happens to be the most densely populated counties and the location of Portland, U of O, (Eugene) and Oregon State (Corvalis). Hmmm.





Warning: Shameless Grandad Boasting:

Jason and Emily (Steve & Michelle's two) went to preschool this morning dressed in the Halloween costumes they'll wear to go treating tonight. Jason has abs like his grandad and Emily looks SO much like her pretty mother.

Megan (Josh & Aubri's 15-year old) is a sweet girl with an emerging talent for drawing and this illustrates (see what I did there?). This talent marks her as her mother's daughter since no MacDonald ever managed anything more than a stick figure and Aubri's budding (yep, again) flower business shows her artistic gifts.

No pic, but Caedon, (J & A's 12-year old) is embarking on a year-long passage to young manhood with his dad that includes mental, spiritual, and physical dimensions. The year's reading list includes eight books that many adults would find challenging - Mere Christianity, Do Hard Things, The Seven Habits....
The list of several physical challenges tentatively includes a 10k run (6.2 miles). The spiritual dimension includes a variety of disciplines including reading each of Paul's epistles.

We've got a seriously impressive family.
