Yeah, it's almost certainly photo-shopped. But I still like it.
One of the women in our small group is a house mom at a sorority at U of O and I've learned a lot about Greek life from conversations at our Tuesday meetings (I knew nothing about it before). We meet at the house of a couple who run an on-campus ministry and that puts them in frequent contact with Greek life, so they've added to the conversations.
I still don't get it, don't see why students would get into that arena, especially with the associated issues.
From today's news: a guy is in a mental institution in Hawaii after a "mentally incompetent" plea. He raped, shot, and stabbed a woman to death. Seems he walked out of the institution, took two flights, landed in San Jose, CA. and just walked off into the sunset. They have no idea where he is now, but tell people they should NOT approach him because he's totally psycho, a sexual predator, and is likely to repeat his crimes.
Anybody else thinks a story like this has relevance to the Second Amendment debate?
Note: since I typed that this morning they caught the guy.
I recently purchased a handgun for use dispatching goats before butchering. It's the most humane way to do that. I am not skilled enough to consider using it as a defense weapon in the VERY unlikely event someone came to MoHo with evil intent.
But because we live out in the woods I wish we could afford a big dog like all our neighbors have. That makes an effective deterrent, IMO.
It would require fencing ($$$) and then the purchase of the dog ($$).
So I'm counting on the very humble appearance of MoHo to persuade said bad guy that he'd find better pickin's someplace on down the road. This place pretty much screams, "Nothing of value here!"
Note: there are rescue dogs here, and every dog we've ever had has been a rescue, so it's not like we wouldn't consider that option. But every rescue dog we've seen here is either a little yapper of some sort of Chihuahua mix or a Pit Bull mix, and I just won't go there.
Today is the birthday of Felix Frankfurter (b. 1882, d. 1965) who was an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. Too bad he isn't around today to rule on Anthony Weiner's case.
I had a very helpful phone conversation with Brian this morning. He's faculty at GBC and friend from way back. We talked about how textbooks are purchased by students and that helped me think about publishing options. I had ruled Kindle out. They will publish anything in a digital format and also have a POD (Print On Demand) service called KDP. While there are several strong advantages to the Kindle route I saw some potential problems. After talking with Brian those problems don't look like real issues, so now I'm back to Kindle as (at this point) my preferred option. I still have lots more research to do, however I do feel I'm beginning to get a handle on this.
I also have been working on a cover design, have a basic concept, and am going to talk to one of the interns at church Sunday who has some graphic artist skills. We'll see what she thinks.
I need an ISBN number for every format, so one for paperback and a separate number for a digital edition. You can buy them singly for $125 each, or in groups of 10 for $295. If I need more than two that latter option is obviously better, but I'm not sure how many I need. Do I need a separate number for each language edition? I *think* so, and this will be translated into at least Spanish fairly early on.
It's 6:30 p.m. and we've had just over an inch of rain today. It's still coming down and will straight through tomorrow.
Parts of the goat pen are a sloppy mess.
