"It is selfish to concern oneself with tragedies." - Rose Kennedy.

Another fascinating day in NY. There is SO much to encounter.

In reverse order:

I'm just back from dinner at Dan & Doreen's place. That's one I'll remember! They live in a 100+ year old house that's been in their family for generations. Until a few years ago they continued the family business - raising ducks. Duck farms (more properly termed duck ranches, I learned) used to cover Long Island and now, thanks to soaring property values and govt. regulation there are only one or two left. Dan & Doreen had thousands of ducks at any one time. They incubated the eggs and then raised them for six weeks at which time they were sold for meat. Until synthetics became the norm the down was sold for pillows, jackets, and the like.

Dan fixed a dinner that was as good as anything I've ever had and worthy of a five star restaurant. Seriously.
Duck, asparagus, and cauliflower with a curry seasoning.
You NEED to have duck sometime. I was surprised that it's a red meat and could pass for beef or pork. It gets served rare, is tender, and DEE-LISH-US! I had seconds and would have had thirds if I had no manners.

And two fascinating people! She's a nurse practitioner who has worked in a zoo and he's another craftsman who specializes in restoring historic structures. He's working on a windmill now! It's a national historic landmark. Oh, and he's a survivor of esophageal cancer.

Getting to their place and getting home was a little more excitement than it should have been because that Nor'easter has exceeded expectations. It's still snowing and the predicted 1-3" has turned into something closer to 6". And the wind is howling. I'm guessing gusts at 40 mph that's blowing the snow like crazy.

This pic was taken before I left for their house. When I came out of their place to drive home there was that much snow again.

This afternoon I had a good conversation with Kent, one of the elders at EBC and the chairman of their search committee. Before that I was at Beach Bakery for coffee and work on my article. Before that I talked shop for an hour with Jeremy, their youth pastor. He's very good and we had great conversation.

Before that I worked on my slides for Sunday night. And did the laundry. And had b'fast. And did the dishes. And watched the news.
I got all that done because I was up at 2 a.m.

So now I'm sleepy. The wind is so loud that it sounds like a roar just outside. I'm sure I can sleep through it, no problem.
