"Democracy is a device that insures (sic) we shall be governed no better than we deserve." - George Bernard Shaw
Well that didn't take long.
I seem to be locked out of the church database.
That pic above made me think about a quote attributed to Abraham Lincoln: "If I were two-faced would I be wearing this one?"
Finally! The digital clock I added to Sally will read the correct time tomorrow morning. The problem will be that I'm used to mentally adding an hour to whatever it says.
I read a blog post from a friend who said his problem with the Democratic Party is that they have moved from protecting his basic liberties to remaking him into the kind of citizen they think he ought to be. He shouldn't drink sugared pop, use plastic grocery bags.....
Interesting thought.
It's also interesting that in a campaign trail speech yesterday President Obama mocked the current administration for taking credit for the booming economy when it's happening because of policies set in place by his administration.
This from the guy who spent eight years blaming President Bush and the previous administration for all the things that were wrong.
The logical conclusion is that we vote for a President so our lives will be better in eight years.
Oregon's income tax rate is in the top 10% of states. Part of that is because we don't have a sales tax, so more money has to be generated through an income tax than in states with both. Now that Pam and I will have income (like most states OR does not tax S.S.) we need to take that into consideration when doing a new budget.
This was today's major project. I don't want this trailer to rot like the last one because of the Oregon moisture so I built it differently. It's made out of exterior grade plywood and primed and painted with exterior paint. But for about $100 I got this "Portable Shed" from Harbor Freight and put it up today. It's 10'x10' and the trailer is 10'x4' including the tongue so it fits with room to spare for my generator, compressor, and a few other items.
The first line of the instructions section of the booklet said, "Three people are required to erect this shed." Pam and I got it done.
But it wasn't easy. The instructions were less than clear in several places and the diagrams confusing.
I told Pam I had a mental image of a group of Chinese women sitting at machines in a factory over there giggling at the thought of an old white skinny guy trying to put this together.
This afternoon we took Buddy over to the facility where Bill now lives so he could see the dog he
raised from a pup. Bill seemed very pleased and I *think* Buddy recognized him, but he's so friendly with everyone it's hard to know for sure.
Buddy is my buddy. He sleeps on the floor next to my side of the bed. Awwww.
We haven't decided what to do with the extra hour we get tonight. We (OK, one of us) could stay up later without paying the price tomorrow morning. Alternatively, we (OK, one of us) could go the bed at the normal time and sleep an extra hour in the morning. Or we could get up an hour earlier than normal and hit Starbucks on the way to church. Since I started teaching this class I can't do that unless we leave stupid early.
I left the decision up to Pam which means she'll either stay up later or sleep an extra hour.
Oh well.
