"It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain an idea without accepting it." - Aristotle

Yeah, I've been AWOL. This coming out of retirement gig is exhausting. UFC is big enough to have its own work place culture and I'm struggling to get up to speed. I also really want to meet their needs and expectations so I'm doing a ton of extra reading, research, and thinking - all day and too much of the night - about how to do my job.

I had a very good meeting this morning with Dave. He's the executive pastor, very good at that role, and has a personal story that, if it was a book, you wouldn't believe. We talked about my assigned area and my vision of how it should happen. I think my "pitch" was a bit of a deviation from their original intent but I also think Dave was receptive. I left feeling much better about where this project is headed.

Meanwhile I'm dealing with Sally's issues. I'd hoped getting the front bearings replaced and that crisis resolved would mean a break in maintenance problems. Nope.
The bandaid fix of the rear main seal has failed so the engine is once again leaking oil at a problematic rate. And the transmission is afflicted with a problem known as drain back.  After the car sits for several hours, like overnight, the fluid drains out of the part where it's needed (the torque converter) down into the pan with the result that when put in gear the car won't move. The most likely cause: a bad seal.
I'm working a resolution to both problems. Yeah, $$$. Whatcha gonna do? Especially when you've just started a new job and need the transportation so your wife can get her stuff done. Like going into town to do the laundry so you have clothes to wear to work.

I trimmed Stella's hooves yesterday and they were WAY overdue. Marta came today, checked my work, and gave me a passing grade. Whew! She also gave us her opinion on which of the two kids we should keep as a breeding doe and which should end up on the dinner plate.
Frenchie (French Fry) got the blessing and Donut the death sentence. Donut is bigger and thus likely to bear bigger kids. But Frenchie isn't small and is very tame making her easier to handle.

Yesterday I had my last PT appointment. I've been officially discharged! Hoooray!! I've enjoyed getting to know Mellissa (the PT) and Becca, the receptionists. Besides being very good, we're now friends and they encouraged me to come back in to visit them from time to time. I will, especially because their office is on the other side of the block the UFC offices are on. So it's easy to walk over there.
I'm going to bake an apple pie to take them next week.

Why do Canadians cut ham into 3" circles and call it BACON? I am not fooled. Are you?
