"The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But it's still on my list."
Dolly was due yesterday and as of this evening (4:30 as I write this) she hasn't kidded or shown signs of being real close. She has not bagged, but there *may* be some change in her shape - as in the kid(s) may have moved into the birth canal.
I had a bad run Saturday morning. Did three miles but had to stop four or five times along the way to regather myself. Just felt cruddy and it didn't go away the rest of the day. Yes, that was an increased distance, but only by 1/2 a mile from what I'd been doing daily.
So I took Sunday and yesterday off. Sunday was mostly about recovering from bucking hay Saturday night but I admit to feeling tentative about a run yesterday.
Today I decided I couldn't slack any longer and left at 3 p.m. to do 3 miles again.
Easy peasy.
I think I may have gone out too fast on Saturday. That, or sometimes your body just doesn't want to do it. Oh well. Mostly I'm glad to have had a good, easy run and be back on track physically and mentally.
Last week I wrote here that the name Trivago comes from the French (tri), Spanish (va), and English words for "go."
Friend Sue, a Francophile who has spent a few years now learning to speak French (to what end I'm unclear) tells me that tri doesn't mean go in French. Not even close.
I sent her the link to the Google search page where I got that from but she's not conviced.
Look, I read it on the internet so it's obviously accurate.
I think she got those French lessons on sale.
I think I'm going to watch the Dem debates just to see the sport of it. There will be 10-12 on stage at each of the two debates, every one of them trying to stand out from the crowd. Somebody is guaranteed to try too hard and step in it which will cause the others to pounce.
Blood in the water.
We watched a 3-part Masterpiece Theater drama that we'd recorded and saved until we could watch them back-to-back and not lose the plot line from one week to the next. I don't remember the name of this BBC series but it starred the guy who plays Doc Martin. In this show he was Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and I think it was a true story, or at least based on one.
Very good! And the British know how to do cinematography. About halfway through I started noticing how captivating the photography was. Interesting angles, lighting.... I don't know anything about what makes good cinematography but I sure like what I see on BBC shows compared to what we do.
I mentioned to someone a couple of weeks ago that we'd celebrate our 48th anniversary in August.
"Wow, that's cool. What are you going to do for your 50th?"
Hadn't given it a thought. Seriously.
Yesterday we got a big postcard in the mail from a cruise line saying we could get $400 off almost any stateroom on select cruises. So if we wanted to sail to Long Beach we're golden! Except for the part where we have to pay the balance.
But that started a 2 minute conversation about what we'd do if we had the money. We feel the same about cruises. Thanks to my folks we've been on three Norwegian Cruise Line sailings, two to Alaska and one to someplace along the southern Mexico coast. I don't remember where it was because a hurricane meant we could only stop in one of four scheduled ports.
A cruise is ideal for some people including my folks at the time. Even with limited mobility you have easy access to all the facilities, shows in the evening, outstanding food... But a cruise line wants to get as many people as possible on a great big ship with the result that there are people everywhere. Your "stateroom" (is that term supposed to make it feel luxurious?) is the only place where there isn't a crowd. If you like alone time someplace other than a 10'x12' room with a queen bed and a washcloth folded like T-Rex you're outta luck.
But we agreed last night that a European river cruise sounds appealing. Much smaller ships means fewer people. Daily stops in historic cities seems better than a day in a town that doesn't exist except during the tourist season.
And no hurricanes.
We're going to keep this in mind. Seems like t'would be fun.
