"He was a bold man who first ate an oyster." - Jonathan Swift
I forgot to tell you about this very cool thing they have in Brazil. We NEED it here!
When you're stopped at a red light waiting for it to turn green you get an alert 10 seconds before the change. The red light blinks. It only goes dark for a fraction of a second before going back to red, but it's very noticable and alerts you to be ready for the green in 10 seconds.
Can we PLEASE get that in Oregon?? I've never lived in a place where so many people zone out and don't notice when the light turns green.
Drives. Me. Crazy!
But wait! There's more!
When the light is green there's a separate light alongside it. Think of 10 small green ^ symbols stacked vertically. When the light first turns green those symbols light up in a cycle from bottom to top as if to say, "OK, get moving now!" After about two or three of those cycles all 10 stay green. Then, 10 seconds before the light changes to yellow the ^ symbols begin to go out from top to bottom. So you know that in 8, 7, 6, 5.... seconds you're going to get a yellow light.
Genius!
I now have both fenders installed. I'm especially pleased with what's called panel gaps. The space between the fenders and the hood and the fenders and the doors are even and consistent. I wet sanded, buffed, and waxed the vertical side of the fenders because that was easier to do when they were on the saw horses and they were vertical surfaces. It looks fine so long as you don't get down on your knees and sight down the panel. Yeah, I might be able to get it better but I also might sand or buffer burn through the paint if I tried.
They say the trick to true artistry is knowing when to quit.
Aside from wet sanding, buffing and polishing the roof, hood, and tops of the fenders all that remains is assembling the front - the valances, headlight assemblies, and bumper. I think I can have it ready to drive to church next Sunday. That's my goal.
We have three more class meetings of our read-through-the-Bible class finished. Then we're going to have a class party on 9/22. I will have the 29th off and then start another year's classes beginning on 10/6.
My first Continuing Ed class is a four week course that will meet on Thursday nights beginning on 9/5. We'll be talking about stewardship as a model for the Christian life. I'll teach a series of four week courses through the school year with a break in December while our church focuses on Advent and in January when Brett is going to teach a series on evangelism.
Names of God, salvation terms, Imago Dei, Decision Making and God's Will....
Teaching is my drug of choice. Hope I don't OD.
