Whassup wid dat?

So many news items that you just cannot live without! But fear not, Vagabond Thoughts is here at your service, sorting through all of it and making sure you get the essential items, assuring that your life is informed and complete.

A man on a walk in the west valley here noticed a bucket on the side of the road. He looked inside the bucket and found a skull. Not a head, a skull. I suppose it's not the kind of thing you can just put out with the trash. And there's no recycling center those.
I wonder if the rest of the body is still in his bathtub.

If you're a John Cleese fan (and Pam and I are, big time) you will find this letter from the English comedian interesting.
Letter to Americans

The average Harley rider is 47 years old and has an income of $75,000 to $100,000. One out of every four Harley buyers are either divorced or separated. (Two of the other three will be within a year of purchase.)

Oscar de la Hoya is the greatest pound-for-pound boxer in history. He holds or has held the championship belt in five separate weight divisions and his fights have brought in a half billion dollars just in ticket sales. His professional record is 38 wins (30 by KO) and 5 losses. (It should be noted that his last fight was a loss last July to Floyd Mayweather Jr. of Grand Rapids.) He is one of the most feared fighters in the world.
Which explains his defensiveness over the pictures his former mistress has been spreading around the internet - pictures of Oscar posing in a fishnet body suit. He claims the pics are Photoshopped, but several "experts" say no.
He and the woman are scheduled to appear in court. Oscar will, presumably, arrive in a man's suit.

I saw that someone called in a bomb threat to a Burger King on East 28th Street in Grand Rapids.
Hey! I've been there.
But then I've probably been to all the BK's in Grand Rapids.
Maybe Kent and Ottawa counties.

Enough of that.
In this week's email to the folks at Pathway I gave them a challenge if they had time and inclination. They were to read through Genesis 17 a few times and see if they could come up with the structure built into the narrative. Their hint was to look for a repeated word or phrase.
Look at verses 4, 9 and 15. Notice anything?

Pam's mom had back surgery last Tuesday in Grand Rapids. Tomorrow she'll move from the hospital to a rehab facility for more intensive physical therapy. This Friday Pam will fly back to help her out with her first week at home. Nobody knows exactly when she'll be released to go home, so it's possible Pam may arrive earlier than necessary. Her return flight is the following Thursday, so we're hoping everything goes well with the PT and her mom is released on schedule so Pam can maximize her time there.
Normally Pam would cook up a bunch of food and stash it in the freezer for me to eat while she's away. But she's working a 12-hour shift Tuesday and Thursday so she won't have time. Which means my nascent cooking skills have just become survival skills. This should be interesting.
Or, I could just head for Burger King.

You're invited to join us tomorrow morning! The info is in the upper right corner. We'll worship together, looking at the institution of circumcision during the sermon. During Foundations we'll begin our discussions in anticipation of writing Pathway's doctrinal statement.
Informal, relaxed and vertical.

I liked John Cleese's 'Letter'; it was funny enough for its absurdity. He only misses one little, teeny, tiny point. I think that all the annoyances, the so-called misspelling, and his take on our culture can be forgiven in light of a few 'minor' historical incidents in the 20th Century. You know, World Wars I and II and oh yeah, forcing the Soviets to spend themselves Bankrupt in the arms race.....
