It's all in your perspective.Be still, my heart.
We had a church meeting in town tonight and I rode the motorcycle in. Saves gas and it gets around easier.
Coming home I was halfway up the off ramp, still doing 70 mph, when a very bright flashing light on the dash signals a brake failure. That will get the adrenalin pumping! Fortunately, the brakes worked fine, both on the ramp and at each application between there and home.
Tomorrow I'll look into causes. It may just mean I'm low on brake fluid or that I need new pads. Or that the ABS isn't working properly. I'm planning to ride it out to the northeast side of town on Wednesday, so I should probably look into it before then.
Chickens and eggs
One topic discussed at our meeting tonight was the need to find a place to meet besides Josh & Aubri's house. In addition to being an imposition on them, people are disinclined to visit a church that meets in someone's house.
Truth is, we all thought we would have seen more growth by this time. Is the location, a home, the problem? Do you grow until you need a public space or do you need a public space to grow? There are no right answers; each situation is unique. So we began by praying for wisdom. If you'd like to join us in that we'd sure appreciate it!
Speaking of perspective
I enjoy talking the finer points of theology as much as anyone. I am by NO means a theologian, but over the years I've spent enough time in the Bible and done enough reading in books to have come to some conclusions.
I used to enjoy those discussion on the details of theology in a forensic sense - the opportunity to poke holes in their position and persuade them of my interpretation. But I don't feel that way anymore. I realized I rarely persuaded anyone, but I did increase the level of tension within the Body.
I think that unless it makes a difference I'm inclined to let those finer points go. By "makes a difference" I mean some practical difference in someone's life. They may need the point in question to deal with a specific issue, to get the meaning of a particular passage or clear up some confusion. But in each case there's a readiness to consider the options, a desire to explore the issue. That's different from wanting to debate it just for the sake of debate. I don't find that fun, at least compared to the fellowship of other believers who may not cross their T's exactly as I do.
Who does that?
I fixed that toilet this morning. I was pretty sure that I'd find the wax ring between the toilet and the flange in the floor had failed so I bought a new ring before I went out there.
Sure enough it had failed, and some time ago. The bolt on the left side had rusted through from the months (years?) of leaking. No problem; a wax ring comes with a little package containing two new bolts, washers and nuts.
Except someone had opened this box and taken out that package.
It's not like I could re-use the bolts; one of them had crumbled. So I made the 12-mile drive back into Lowe's to get the bolts, washers and nuts.
What goes through the mind of someone who pulls a stunt like that? Do they think about the person who's going to buy that box, sans the package of hardware? Isn't "do unto others...." intuitive?
Knock, knock.
Who's there?
Norma Lee
Norma Lee who?
Normally I don't go around knocking on doors, but I really have to go to the bathroom. Can I use yours?
