Continued improvement today. I actually ate normal food, albeit minimal amounts, for all three meals.I don't know exactly what is so fascinating about this short video but I think it's cool:
Bullet Footage
It actually happened, and right here in Phoenix. A 45-year old guy is talking to his wife when he heard a noise from the closet. He opened the closet and, sure enough, there stands the wife's boyfriend. The boyfriend had a gun, the husband had a knife, and now they're both in the hospital. The wife is in some really deep doo-doo.
Despite 17 years there I could never bring myself to pull for Michigan teams. I can't explain why, except that coming from So Cal in the late 80's and being a Laker's fan I could only see the Pistons as the embodiment of evil. (Laimbeer, Thomas, Rodman, Salley). Raab is the only guy I know who continues to believe in the Lions and I always found the Tigers stodgy and boring.
By contrast I find it easy to pull for AZ teams. The Suns are headed to the playoffs and while their division is the toughest in the NBA their chances are at least good. The Cardinals are getting better each year, and Leinart - if he can ever grow up - shows promise. Alas, the Diamondbacks just gave up a 2-run lead in the ninth to go 1-1 for the season. Oh well.
Now that Pathway Bible Church is in a public space the opportunities for growth increase dramatically. But things need to come in a specific order, and first on the list is a logo. Only after we have that can we move on to sandwich boards, brochures, direct-mail pieces, and any other means of getting the word out that involves a physical medium. Or a virtual one, for that matter; eventually we'll have a web site.
One of the guys at Pathway works for an ad agency and today, with his expert help, we're close to a logo. The executive committee will make a final decision at our meeting Friday night. I think the next step is sandwich boards on the two main streets and one in front of the studio. I can make the boards and we'll probably go with vinyl lettering.
Another gracious individual committed today to purchase a dozen chairs to go along with the 20 already at the studio, so we'll have adequate seating for the foreseeable future.
Which is to say that I'm sitting here feeling like we're at the front edge of a real momentum surge. And that got me to thinking about God's essential role in this, a role we can never take for granted.
At this point things have gone very well. Sure, we'd hoped for faster growth, but we also realized being in a home was problematic for most visitors. In just the last 10 days or so we've got a great location and have several key logistical issues falling into place.
Does that mean that God is behind this and our future as a church is assured? I'd like to think so but I hesitate to go there. It feels too much like presumption, a sin near-kin to pride. At the same time, all of these blessings come from above (James 1). So I'll use the govt.'s phrase: "cautiously optimistic."
Our job is, again, to do everything we can, be faithful stewards of this opportunity and pray all the time, continually asking for God's blessing.
I'll continue to keep you posted on how things go, whether you want to hear about it or not. 'cause I'm pumped about what God could do.
