Argument: what spouses have until he realizes she's right.

Is this not a touching picture? It also says something about the connection - or lack of same - between fancy toys and the degree of pleasure in play.

And this is just funny. Your caption suggestions?

Flat tires are a pain, even on two wheels.

It's come to my attention, via comments to some of my posts, that former students of mine are among the readers of this blog. That concerns me. When I was a professor I was known for my thoughtful, dignified and erudite manner. I'm afraid that after reading this blog their image of me will be shattered, and I feel bad about bursting their bubble.
And yes, Jenny, I do remember Dianne's question about the Minor Prophets being not as tall as the others. (I said they were shorter than the Major Prophets) In fact, I've quoted that in Sunday School classes often.
Good to hear from you! How's life?

We're going to evict the tenants from one of the houses I help take care of for the owner, who lives in San Deigo. They haven't paid August's rent and have made no contact to explain the delinquency. Arizona is definitely a landlord-friendly state; it only takes 5 days to evict with cause. So 5 days after they get the certified letter from the owner I'll go in and clean things up, assuming they're gone. If they're not....well, that could get interesting. But I've been going to the gym and am incredibly buff, so I've got the intimidation factor going for me.

I'm in three fantasy football leagues - head-to-head, survival and salary cap. Which means I have a good shot at the trifecta - finishing last in three leagues in one season.

I worked on Year Two of the curriculum this morning. I'm editing the student handouts. I've told the parents at Pathway that I will have their kids in this class. As I read through the material I'm struck with how much more one can get out of the Bible with a basic understanding of things like its forms, structure, and historical setting.
In Foundations we're doing a brief overview of the four gospels. We're seeing how different they are from each other in purpose, structure, content, etc. For example, Mark has no parables and no sermons, discourse material. Only narrative of Christ's actions. Why? And why does Matthew have an equal balance between discourse and narrative? As we go through this material the gospels stop being four books at the front of the NT and become unique pieces of biblical literature, each with something to contribute to our spiritual growth.
The thing is, nobody can be held accountable for what they've never been told, or for the results that knowing that info should produce.
Are western Christians spiritually anemic? I think so. But the responsibility for that has to be assigned, at least in large measure, to church leaders - primarily pastors - who haven't made teaching the biblical priority that Paul commanded (2 Tim. 4:1-5).
And the ironic thing is that sheep thrive when they're fed! They're happy, growing, reproducing and active.

The people are the best part, and opening up God's Word for them is a great joy.

Well, don't change a thing. I'm enjoying seeing this side of you, although I was somewhat shocked by the picture of the naked guy hanging from the wire. I was hoping that photo wasn't literally another side of YOU.

I'm happy to have found your fun and thought-provoking blog. I found you via Sue. And I vaguely remember your nephew, Paul, mentioning you had a blog the last time he was at camp. (We've truly enjoyed having him speak, by the way.)

Life is good! Dave and I are still at NGYC (we just finished our 14th summer) and we've got four great kids: Emma (10), Jeffrey (8), Lydia (3), and Samuel (10 mos). I homeschool, sing on the worship team, and have been writing S.S. curriculum for the BBS. Do you still do some singing (besides oldies songs while you're teaching)? Oh, I also started swimming laps at the beginning of 2008! Seems like we have some things in common.

Dave's devotional blog is www.northerngraceyouthcamp.org/thestick/ There's a halfway decent picture of our family in the August 24th entry. (We had a pirate theme this summer, hence the ship's wheel and Dave's longer beard.) Enjoy!
