Apparently I'm the only one in the world who passed on the opening ceremonies. Which means I didn't see the adorable little Chinese girl sing that song, titled "The Motherland." Or, as it turns out, lip sync that song. Seems the Chinese authorities didn't think the girl who actually sang the song was cute enough to represent the Motherland on international TV, so they found one who looked better to mime the song. Not since Milli Vanilli....And then there was the fireworks display that included a segment generated on a computer and spliced into the coverage for TV viewers.
And when you think about it, NBC was complicit in the deception. Now there's journalistic integrity for you!
Did you know that:
- It's impossible to lick your elbow?
- Alaska is the state with the highest percentage of people who walk to work?
- More collect calls are made on Father's Day than any other day of the year?
- Honey is the only food that doesn't spoil?
- In Scotland they invented a game that was for "Gentlemen Only, Ladies Forbidden?" That's why it's called Golf.
I did that inspection at the rental this afternoon. They're home and the place is actually in good shape. But she takes umbrage that they're only two weeks late with the rent and already somebody is there checking on them. Huh?
OK, you deserve some links today!
This one is a short article with four pics.

Here's a clip from a recent Conan O'Brien show that is very entertaining:
Pilobolus
You know what makes bicyclists really angry? Drivers who think it's funny to come up behind you and blast their horn. Happened again this morning. Only by the grace of God do I keep all the digits on my right hand around the handlebar as they go by.
It's noteworthy that the Presidents of Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine all appeared with President Saakashvili of Georgia in a show of support. Three of those countries were part of the former Soviet Union and Poland was part of the Eastern bloc. Putin may be trying to restore the Soviet empire but he's going to get some resistance in that effort.
Can you think of a song that has your hometown in the lyrics? How 'bout a town where you've lived? If you're from New York, Chicago or a similar big city we're not impressed. But small towns?
We spent seven years living in Prunedale, an unincorporated area just north of Salinas.
"One day up near Salinas, Lord, I let him slip away.
He's lookin' for that home and I hope he finds it."
- Janis Joplin, "Me and Bobby McGee"
One of the gals at Pathway is from Kankakee, IL.
"All along the southbound odyssey, the train pulls out of Kankakee,
Rolls along past houses, farms and fields."
- Arlo Guthrie, "City of New Orleans"
So, do you have one?
I did some electrical work at the Moore's today. Caroline is adorable. And now I know that if I go poo-poo I get two cookies.
Thank you, Caroline!
The people are the very best part!

I grew up in Buckeye. 30 years ago it was considered a really small town. I'm not sure just how little it is anymore.

I heard a song years ago about a squirel that got loose in the First Self-Righteous Church in a sleepy little town of Pascagoula (Mississipi).
