Lady Macbeth Laundry Soap
Again my apologies for no post on a Sunday evening. I took the mandatory preacher's nap and spent the rest of the day working on the curriculum. By blog-writing time I was wiped.
Shhhhh. It's done.
I have yet to choose from one of the four cover designs I got from the artist late this afternoon, but Pam told me which one she likes so that pretty much settles it. (It's about having someone else to take any blame/criticism.) I met Steve for lunch and gave him a CD with the files needing conversion and an hour later I had them all back in emails as PDF files. I'll go through everything one more time but I know and accept that there will be errors, including some "how did I miss that?" goofs.
It feels weird to be this close to sending it off for digital publication. I've been working on this for the better part of three years and it's something between anti-climactic and scary. And I need to start on the second year of the 2-year course very soon. A first draft is written but lots of editing remains, plus creating all the supplementary files.
I told Pam that if I still had my motorcycle I'd celebrate by heading up into the mountain twisties north of us. But with the fast bike gone I may take a long bicycle ride to someplace for a good meal and back.
I had a good time at Pathway yesterday. I've hesitated to write about outcomes because we accept any and all of them as from our good and sovereign God's. But it was nice that we had two visitors yesterday. One returned from an initial visit a couple of weeks ago that came as a result of our ad in the local paper. The other was there for the first time and came because he liked what he read on our direct mail piece. He said he would see us next week. Another 1,650 pieces went out today and we're prayin' 'em home!
I continue to believe that God will bless Pathway in great ways, all in his good time.
It gives a preacher pause when, 15 minutes before the service starts, he realizes he left his sermon notes on the desk at home. I use very minimal notes - a 1/2 page in 14 point type - but I still like the security of having even that much of a reminder. That said, there's something freeing about working without a net. And yesterday's sermon on Naaman was the right kind of message to do sans notes.
Late this afternoon I went for a consultation with the oral surgeon and tomorrow at 10:30 I'll have a back molar pulled. He's going to have to cut it out from around the jaw bone. He said I'll go home with stitches, it will swell, I'll be bruised on both sides (??) and I'll have a hole into my sinus cavity that will take six months to heal. This sounds like fun.
My choice, so I picked local anesthesia. No chance of getting sick and I can drive myself to and from.
A milkshake for lunch.
Sir Al Fartsalot of Welk Manor is doing better all the time. He's also living up to his name. We're down to a routine that, unfortunately, still includes rising before 5 a.m. But he rarely whines and when he does we take it as an indication he wants to go out. Pam found some treats that he likes and I'm working on getting him to take them out of my hand. The next step will be to train him to come and lay down. (Greyhounds don't sit.) He follows me from room to room and settles in next to wherever I'm sitting. And just in the last day or two Al has started coming over to get some special attention.
He really is a very good dog, easy to have around, and because his behavior is consistent with what we've read about the breed I'd sure recommend a Greyhound as a pet.
I had the option of an 8 a.m. time for the oral surgery but I went with the later time so I could get a bike ride in. So I'm going to eat my supper (I justify it as fuel for the morning ride) and head for bed. Tomorrow is going to be so much fun.
