I'm not a rock star, but I'm pretty good at paper and I RULE at scissors.

Look closely. You may need to click to enlarge.

Did you see the pic of Muammar Gaddafi in the group photo at the meeting in Italy? All those govt. leaders in dark suits and he's wearing something that looks like a cross between drapes and an evening gown. Add the "hat" and he looked like he was in drag. (Don't tell him I said that.)

After leaving that meeting the President met with the Pope. How does the Pope receive with open arms someone who, when a member of the Illinois legislature, voted for late-term abortions?

I'm told it is NOT true that we'll soon have a new network: MJTV, "All Michael, all the time."

GM emerged from bankruptcy today. They sold off their "underperforming" brands - Hummer, Saturn, Pontiac and Saab - and kept the "strong" brands - Chevy, Cadillac, Buick and GMC. They got $50 billion from the govt. (read: you and me) and another$10 billion from the Canadians, who, it is said, now feel goosed.
The CEO of GM, Fritz Henderson, said that part of the company's turn-around involves building high quality vehicles. He admitted in an interview I heard on NPR this afternoon that the company has had a reputation for plastic dashes and poor mechanicals.
That $50 billion is to be repaid by 2015 but Henderson says he hopes they will have it paid back before then.
I found myself wondering about that change to high quality vehicles. He didn't say it has already been made, but rather something that would characterize the "new GM." That seems to suggest that if I go into buy a Chevy this month I'll get the old GM junk. (That's hyperbole. They aren't junk, but they also don't have a strong rep.) When do we see the new GM? And how do they convince the consumer in a relatively short time that they're building the new stuff?

I realized this afternoon that I'm hooked, I've been sucked in.
I loaded some CD's into the Mac using iTunes. It automatically sorts them by album, adds the appropriate album art and then gives me several easy and intuitive ways to view, sort and play the music. I can play them by album or easily create play lists by dragging individual songs.
I realize this isn't news for those of you already using a Mac, but for those in the PC world this simplicity is almost revolutionary.

All of that got me to thinking about this October. We're joining my folks and my older bro. and his wife on a 7-day cruise down the west coast of Mexico. I am looking forward to that!! I can see myself sitting on the deck in a lounge chair with the placid Pacific Ocean in front of me and a good book in my lap.
What else do I need? Tunes in my ear!!
Yes, folks, I need an iPod.
I have an MP3 player. It holds 2 meg of songs. But because it's PC based it's a pain to load and offers almost no options for playback.
(Can you tell I'm building a case for this expenditure?)

And I could use it at the gym before then!
Because of the heat (113 forecast for tomorrow) I'm now getting my cardio by using the rowing machine, the treadmill and the stationery bike in the fitness center and then my hydration by going out to the pool.
I will NOT give up! I WILL become a swimmer!

For eight of the ten years I taught at the college I was enrolled in a 401k program. I still get monthly statements from TIAA-CREF and one came in today's mail. I don't even bother opening them.

When I taught homiletics we'd talk about the sermon introduction. In the first 120 seconds you have to capture their interest and convince them they should listen to what you were going to say. Introductions should be crafted. Secular, biblical, personal.
I've been working through mine today. Crazy thing is, I'm so caught up in the intro that I almost wish we could discuss it all by itself.

I use my i-Pod almost every day. Go get one. You'll find using it at the gym is perfect except I'd suggest leaving it in the bag during the swimming sessions. :-)

You're hooked on iTunes, hooked on the Mac, or both? (There's no wrong answer there :)
