For every problem there exists a solution that is easy, neat and wrong.

Where pumpkin pie comes from.

Several cities in California, including San Francisco, Berkley and West Hollywood have banned the de-clawing of cats. Those city councils determined that it constitutes cruelty to animals and warrants a penalty of up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
An anonymous feline source indicates this is the first step in their plan for cat rights. They will eventually press for an end to spaying and neutering. “Hey, if it’s cruel to have our claws removed, what is it to have the ol’ cojones tossed in the trash?!”

In what seems like it is somehow a related story, the current health care bill proposes a 5% tax on elective cosmetic surgery, including breast implants and botox injections. A spokesperson for Medicis, a manufacturer of implants, calls the tax a form of discrimination against women.
“What’s next? Will we tax people who color their hair?”
Eureka! The budget crisis solved!

I am ready to WAGE WAR!!! Colorado Technical Institute, located in Trenton, New Jersey (who would want a degree from an online school if they said they were in Jersey?) will NOT stop calling. We’re now up to two calls per day. In each case they ask for Pam, and she assures me she hasn’t done anything to warrant this harassment.

At the beginning of these calls I told them she wasn’t in and asked if I could take a message. “Tell her Colorado.....called.” After two days of that I’d start by asking, “May I ask who’s calling” and then find out it was them again. I’ve told them to stop calling, to take us off their list, that we are on the “do not call” list and that we do NOT want to hear from them again. Still they call.

I looked them up online. Their website looks like it fronts for a host of online schools going by a variety of names. What I really wanted was a phone number so I could return the blessing of unsolicited calls, but not surprisingly they don’t list one.

I’m ready to play dirty. In the absence of the means to flood their servers with untraceable emails I’m going to resort to more subtle means.

“Is Pam there?”
“This is she.”

“Is Pam there?”
“Pam passed away last Tuesday from cancer.”

“Is Pam there?”
“No, she began serving her sentence last week. She won’t be available for 7 to 10.”

"Is Pam there?"
"No, and we haven't heard from her in over a week. She doesn't have her medications with her. If you tell us how she contacted you it may help us locate her."

I just learned via the NBC Nightly News that the Twilight series is set in Forks, Washington. My dad grew up in Forks! It was a tiny logging town back then, out in the middle of nowhere. I don’t know if they had any vampires there back then.
Stephanie Spielman died yesterday as a result of her 5th recurrence of breast cancer. She was the wife of Chris Spielman who was a pro-bowl player for the Detroit Lions, and also played for the Browns and Bills. She found the cancer during a self-exam when she was 30 years old and was 41 when she died. She leaves behind four children, the oldest of whom is 15.

Her husband Chris was playing in the NFL when she was diagnosed and took a year off of football during one of her treatment regimens. He shaved his head when she lost her hair to help their children understand what was going on and how they would deal with it as a family. Over the course of her fight the Spielman’s raised over $5 million for breast cancer research.

What struck me about this news story is the statement released by the family:
“Stephanie has gone home to be with the Lord. For that we celebrate, but with broken hearts.”

God bless, Spielmans.

Craig,
For some excellent responses to telemarketers see the website of Tom Mabe. He has made a career of taping calls made to him by telemarketer. What's interesting is how he replies to them.
