Here's one of the more interesting cars from the auction. This is an especially nice '56 Isetta, a 3-wheel, single cylinder "micro-car" made during the 50's by BMW. The guy up the street from our childhood house had a more basic model.
The distinguishing feature of the "Bubble Car" is the front door (the only door). Obviously no back seat! Climb in, pull the door closed and putter away.
Yeah, this was before the National Highway Safety Administration. Almost nothing on this little beauty would pass muster today.
I got a lot done today and I'm still not done. Why is it even the most productive days end with things left on the to-so list?
Back in the day I'd change into my running shorts and shoes, do a little stretching and head out on a run. I've always preferred running to any other sport because it's the most egalitarian. No equipment beyond a pair of shoes means no advantage for those with more financial resources (cf. golf or cycling). Competing in a 10k against others in my age group was even and fair.
I suppose it still is, but I couldn't help but think how much has changed as I got ready for my run this afternoon. I connected my iPod, threaded it through my shirt to my waistband and dialed up the tunes. Then I strapped on the Garmin GPS watch Steve gave me last weekend. The battery won't hold a charge for more than 10 miles worth of running and he's doing marathon distances, so he got a new one. This old(er) version will do just fine for me. But before I could leave on my run I had to turn it on and wait while it connected with satellites. Amazing stuff. I'm not sure I ran any faster or better for all the electronics but I know exactly how far I went and how many cuts from the "Down From the Mountain" CD it takes to run that distance.
I think we've had more rain in the last 24 hours than we had all of last year. More coming tomorrow and the biggest storm moving through Thursday. The result should be an amazing display of blooms in the surrounding desert come springtime.
I got our Christmas letter written today. And no, I'm not working ahead.
Pam and I talked this morning about how thankful we are for four kids all walking in the truth (3 John 4). I feel for parents with children out of fellowship with their heavenly Father.
I'm a sucker for kids, and stories of adoption really tug at my heart. So the video footage on tonight's news of Haitian children whose adoptions have been expedited by their govt. and ours are almost more than I can deal with. I won't be surprised if there are special rewards coming to believers who adopt.
Erich Segal died today.
I'm sorry.
Only four more lessons to edit and the second year's text is DONE. Then it's on to creating Power Point presentations, grade sheets, maps....
OK, back to work. Page layout to the sights and sounds of the Australian Open...with some homemade brownies straight from the pan.
