This isn't from today's Barrett-Jackson car auction but it's an impressive picture. Note that outside rear tire which is the only thing on "this" side of the wall. More on that later.Pam and I left the house about 9:15 and met Bob & Marla at the auction site east of Scottsdale at 10:00. This was one of the five days we have each year when the sun didn't shine. It was cool (low 60's) and overcast, with occasional sprinkles (I like multicolored) but we were under the tents for most of the day so it was OK.
We walked, and walked and walked. My hips hurt. But by the time we left at 4:00 we had looked at over 1200 cars that will begin making their way across the auction stage beginning tomorrow morning and progressing through Sunday night. The further into the week they go the higher the prices go. So I'm curious to see how this '67 VW Bus does Wednesday night (click on the lot number) and this '59 Olds which will get the hammer Sunday. The thing about that Olds is that we had a car just like it when we lived in Riverside. Ours was stock and white, but it was a 2-door hardtop. You gotta agree it's a fine lookin' sled.
Oh yeah. I have a second pic of that truck, this time from the other side of the retaining wall. The laws of physics are inviolable even when they look all wrong. In this case, leverage and center of gravity is everything.
We ate lunch on the grounds and had soba noodles stir fry with chicken. It was pretty good! Pam decreed that we'll be eating soba noodles again soon. Apparently they're better for you than regular noodles. And broccoli will be featured prominently, I'm sure.We parted company at 4:00. Bob & Marla headed for the airport where they caught their flight back to San Jose. They drive from there to their home in Hollister. We drove home through traffic that was altogether too thick for a national holiday. When we got to the house both Al and I had to go to the bathroom REALLY bad. He waited.
We had a great time with Bob & Marla and they've promised to come back for another visit. They have airline miles and next time they'll stay here at the house, so we're hoping they'll come soon. And I need to make a trip to their place in Hollister. Bob recently got a 2009 Corvette C-6 with a 6-speed that he guarantees will put a grin on my face. And since he's a retired CHP captain, speed limits don't apply. Heh, heh.
Pathway Bible Church is a wee bit bigger tonight with the addition of Ryan Jacob, born earlier today. Fun stuff!
In 2008 The Wall Street Journal predicted that in 2009 we would have 2.5% growth and 5.5% unemployment.

Well, looky here. Another picture of that truck:
Did the driver crawl out? Did he smell pretty bad when he did? With the Cards out I'll pull for the Colts the rest of the way, just because I'm a Peyton Manning fan.
Will someone please level Mr. Favre? Better yet, how 'bout three or four pick-six on the guy.
