Bob & Marla Davies are dear friends from our days at Grace Community Church in Prunedale, CA. They now live in Hollister, a few miles east of Prunedale. Bob was the captain in the CHP and was running that office when he retired a few years ago. (He retired after 30 years but he was way too young.) We've stayed in touch but haven't seen them for more years than I can remember. They surprised us by showing up at Pathway yesterday morning. They knew we were in Phoenix but located us more specifically through the internet and set it up with the kids to arrive at church just before the service began. (I thought we were past the years when our kids kept secrets from us.)
Great surprise! We all went out for lunch after church and then the four of us met for dinner last night at BJ's. This morning we're meeting at the Barrett-Jackson auction, one of the big annual events here each year.
We got home from dinner way too late for me to write a post, especially on a Sunday night (it was already past my bedtime). That's why this is only showing up now. I'll post tonight, incl. some pics from the auction.
I was telling the folks last week that one of my big frustrations in life is that people live all over the place. We have VIP we miss a ton and can't see because of geographical distance. Having Bob & Marla here just days after saying that is very, very cool. They're the kind of friends who, when we see them we pick up right where we left off years and years ago.
BTW, big props to Steve who ran the P.F. Chang's marathon here yesterday!
