I got a ton of stuff done today. Started early with a mind to move steadily from one task to the next and the effort paid off. I'm working on two Sunday's worth of church tasks as well as getting ready for next week when I'll be in Seattle. I'll fly up Monday morning and work alongside my brothers getting our folks out of their house and into their unit at the Ida Culver House. That's a graduated care facility on the north end that allows them to transition from independent living into levels of increased care as the need arises. We're sharing the many tasks associated with that move, and because of cell phones and the internet I was able to get several of those checked off even from 1200+ miles away.
Got some serious writing done today, too. Making significant progress on a couple of special projects.

Motorcycle riding
The clip right after the "roof jump" shows what's called a tank slapper. That term accurately describes a situation when the handlebars wobble uncontrollably from side to side with increasing speed and force until the inevitable happens. The cause is a combination of factors related to physics over which the rider has no control. High performance bikes have a feature called a steering damper designed to decrease the chances of a tank slapper but the possibility can't be eliminated altogether. They say that if your bike starts going into that behavior you should start praying, because there's nothing else you can do at that point.
The Sect. of Homeland Security says the new AZ illegal alien law is a bad law that actually makes the situation more dangerous. Her perspective would carry more weight if she weren't the former Democratic governor of AZ criticizing the actions of a Republican state legislature. I think the law is seriously flawed, but her opinion can't be counted for much.
30% of the population of AZ is of Hispanic origin. That's twice the national average. The Pew Hispanic Center estimates that 9% of the people in AZ are here illegally. Those numbers illustrate why so many of the state's residents fear police intimidation and so many of the state's residents favor a very aggressive approach to the problem of illegal aliens.
This is a tough, complex issue.
I start tomorrow at the dentist's office. I'm there to get the permanent bridge installed but I need more than that. I've had some pretty stiff pain for the last two weeks. Something is wrong in there.
From there I'll go to a house to do a wide range of repairs that need to be completed before the close of escrow next week. I'll be there most of the day. Some of the work is up on the roof which should be special fun in the 25 mph winds - with gusts over 45 mph - they say we're going to get tomorrow.
Tomorrow night is our last Men's Bible Study in this cycle. We do a 6-8 week study and then take a break so guys don't feel like they're getting involved in something with no defined terminus. We've been going through the section of Judges about Gideon. I've had fun with it. I hope we've all learned and grown.
The results of a study on the link between depression and chocolate were released today. They don't yet know if eating chocolate causes depression or if depression causes people to eat chocolate. Uhm...couldn't they just ask 1,000 people? They'd all agree.
Which makes me think about Reese's peanut butter cups and peanut butter cookies with those giant chocolate drops in the middle.
I miss those.
I'm getting depressed just thinking about how much I miss those.

..And that last clip of the guy going into the port-a-pottie is Valentino Rossi. It's likely he had such a huge lead he could afford to take the stop. He's the most amazing athlete nobody's ever heard of. It's unreal how much better at road racing he is than anyone else.

Peanut butter blossoms...mmmmm.....
