I like that Pathway is a young congregation. I don’t mind at all being the oldest guy in the room. But c’mon! How can there be nobody in the group who’s heard of Betty Friedan?
Not a lot of traffic early on Memorial Day but half of those who are out on the road are crazy and not the least bit interested in giving a cyclist any extra room. This is especially true of guys driving stupid big trucks hauling stupid big boats up to the lake. Drive your truck fast so you can get to the lake and drive your boat fast and then, well lubricated, drive back home fast.
How many billions of barrels of oil would we save if young males could be convinced that a big, tricked-out 4-wheel drive pickup doesn't make them a man?
In Europe a statement car has style and performance. Here it's about size and noise.
In a degree of wisdom only the govt. could achieve, the U.S. Census Bureau is counting illegal immigrants held in detention centers awaiting deportation. That amounts to about 30,000 people on any given day. The district in which a detention center is located thus gets federal funding and Congressional representation based, in part, upon people getting shipped out of the country.
Year Two of the curriculum now lacks only the artwork. Everything else is ready to be sent out for production.
I need to get to work on promotion letters and brochures.
We have friends coming for the weekend. They're in So. Cal. now but they consider the village of Kipaka in The Democratic Republic of Congo their home. Fred and Karen Vinton will come sometime Saturday and be our guests at Pathway Sunday morning.
I can't think of anyone I respect more in the field of missions than Fred & Karen. Their commitment to doing missions thoughtfully, biblically and sacrificially is immediately obvious. So I'm eager for the people at Pathway to hear from them. They would not be at all offended to hear me describe them as nothing approaching charismatic personalities. No flash with Fred and Karen. Just two quiet, humble servants who have made huge progress for the gospel in a remote part of Africa. My only frustration is that we'll only have this Sunday morning. They have so much to teach us about how missions should be done in our rapidly changing world.
You should come to Pathway this Sunday!
