I spent way too much time today writing addresses on envelopes, including our return address. And that got me thinking...why do we have to write the city? When I go to the Post Office and use their machine for sending a Priority Mail box the screen asks me to enter the zip code. A subsequent screen says the label for sending my box to ______ (city name) is printing. If that machine can identify the city based on the zip code why do I need to write it on these envelopes? In fact, that zip tells them both the city AND the state. So the most they need is the street address. They obviously don’t need the name because we get some bizarre variations on our names showing up in our mailbox.
My favorite, though, was getting church mail in CA addressed to “Ms. Grace B. Church.”
Fred told me he’s planning on doing a 60-mile mountain bike ride later this summer that winds through a wilderness area of CA. That’s a really long mountain bike ride, and when I asked him why he explained it has to do with his age. He turns 50 this year and decided to mark that milestone by doing a longer ride than he’s ever attempted. Prove that he’s not really old.
That got me to thinking. I also have a milestone birthday this year. When I turned 30 I decided to do a longer run than I’d ever done, which at that point meant a 13-mile run out to Moss Landing and back. But this old body can’t run anything close to that now, which is why I went looking for a bike ride today.
I’ve done two centuries (100-mile rides) so it needs to be something longer than that.

El Tour de Tucson
They have a 109-mile loop! It’s the Saturday before Thanksgiving which means great weather and no conflict with church (most of these events are on a Sunday).
I like this idea!
Short post tonight. Our monthly elder meeting means I’m home late and I still have to eat supper.
