Tough ride this morning. I was out the door about 6:30 so the temp wasn’t too bad. But there was a stiff breeze blowing that was a headwind for most of the first half of my 37-mile out and back. Tonight my quads are sore. I also can’t stop eating and drinking. I went through four large bottles on my ride but I’ve still had about a gallon of liquid since then (only one can of Diet Coke!) and enough food to feed a family. I’m not done, either.
We’re not having Foundations (our second hour, and what most churches would call Sunday School) for the month of July. We’re doing that this month because schools here all start up the beginning of August. Hey, it’s so stupid hot then that kids may as well be in an air conditioned classroom as sitting indoors at home.
I’m going to miss second hour. I enjoy teaching more than preaching, including the interaction we have in our adult class.
I haven’t been at all happy with my preaching for the last couple of months. I’m doing some things differently tomorrow in (another) effort to break out of the funk.
Tell me what I have wrong here.
If I press “Cook Control” on the microwave and then hit 8 it doesn’t use 80% of it’s 1,000 watts. It just cycles on and off so that it’s on for 80% of whatever time I programmed. How is that different from entering 80% of the time I originally entered? How is hitting Cook Control-8 for 10 minutes of microwaving different from using 8 minutes at 100%?
Am I getting played by GE?
I wish I could dance. Sometimes, when Pam’s at work, I turn on one of the R&R stations and crank up the volume, especially if I’m working out in the garage or doing chores in the house. Some songs just need to be danced to. The problem is, my brain can’t even think of what to do, so getting my body to do it is out of the question. It would be one thing if I could think it in my head but not pull it off physically.
Those who know me - and particularly everyone who has ever lived in our house - would say it’s a good thing my brain can’t think of what to do. It prevents some serious embarrassment.
But I love music; it doesn’t just hit my ears, it hits my innards. Always has. So today, while I was out in the garage cleaning the car, and the radio was blasting “Old Time Rock and Roll”...well, it just drives me crazy that I can’t dance.
This guy can.
The Tour de France started today with the traditional time trial for stage one. Lance finished fourth. He used to own the TT but it’s a young man’s event. The fact he finished fourth, ahead of some guys who are specialists in the TT, portends good things for the next two weeks. It’s a long shot, but if Lance does win his eight Tour de France he’d be the oldest person ever to win it.
Worth watching.
