Got back from our elder meeting about 9:30 last night and had a project I had to get done before bed. So by 10:15 I was past the point of coherent thought.
Up at 4:30 this morning b/c my brain had already been spinning for almost an hour. Lots of projects for today, so I might as well get up and get a start. The first cup of coffee hasn't calmed things - it's going to be an ADD day - so I'll take a break and ramble here.
Yesterday I left the house at 6:05 a.m. and it was already 91 degrees. I did 32 miles and when I got back it was 97. But it was humid - at least by Phx. standards - and I felt wrong the rest of the day.
It's not that I wasn't diligent about hydration. I drank two large glasses of water before I left, four water bottles' worth on the ride, and more liquid throughout the day (only ONE diet coke!). But as Josh pointed out last night, it's not just fluids; it's also the electrolytes (??) that go along with it.
I had a good pace for the distance, given that it was a distance, not a speed workout. So I feel good about it from that standpoint. But I've decided to take today off, skipping my Thursday speed workout. In fact, I'm giving serious thought to putting a cap on my distance rides until the weather improves.
Tuesday they admitted a guy to Pam's unit suffering from renal failure (kidneys shut down). He'd done a 5-hour bike ride earlier in the day and that was the result. There is NO 5-hour time span here, even in the middle of the night, when you should be doing any physical exercise outdoors. My schedule for Saturday calls for a 45-miler, which would take me about three hours, including the mid-ride break, but even leaving at sun-up (between 5:30 and 6:00) puts me out there in triple digit temps. (We're supposed to hit 115 Saturday.)
If I keep it at 25-30 miles I'll be back in two hours (no break on a ride that distance) which makes a big difference this time of year. I'm not that far away from the Tour de Tucson, but doing shorter long rides now won't cost me that much of my base and will keep me healthy, as opposed to needing a new kidney.
We had a full elder meeting last night with several significant issues to work through. No problems; all good stuff. But things that needed careful attention. We've finished our Constitution and now have to go through the process of implementing it. Pathway is going to get involved in missions, and had to establish some P's and P's for that endeavor. We are also going to do the first Performance Review for the pastor, so getting that process underway took some time.
Oh yeah, we're also moving.
decisions, decisions.
Like I said, LOTS of projects today. I'm working on Pathway stuff now. After Pam leaves I'll pull the Kia into the garage and install the hitch that was delivered yesterday. (Near worthless instructions!) It's already over 90 out there, so I want to get that done early. Then back inside for more church stuff. Because I'm gone next week I have to get two weeks worth of stuff done now.
So can you tell I'm in an ADD storm?
See you again tonight.
