"Too bad the only people who know how to run the country are busy driving cabs and cutting hair." - George Burns

This pic is a couple of days old by now but it's in the folder marked "vacation". I posted a shot of our tent a few days ago but this one, with Pam standing there, gives a sense of perspective. When I got it set up at our camp site her comment was, "Wow! That looks a lot smaller than it did when you set it up in our living room."

No pictures from yesterday or today. We're at the folks' place, staying at the "guest suite" at the Ida Culver House. Basically a motel room but very comfortable, and a 2 minute walk away from my parents' unit.

Today's project was getting an amoire from K-Mart and then assembling it (box furniture). It now sits in a small alcove area in their bedroom. Tomorrow we'll go to Home Depot and get a piece of plywood or MDF cut to size so it will have an extra shelf instead of a rod for hanging. Three meals in the dining room, each very leisurely and full of conversation on all manner of topics.

Floating behind the day's activities - today is our anniversary. We've been married for 39 years. How is that possible?
Yes, I forgot about it until Pam said "Happy anniversary" to me this morning.
She called her mom, who wished her a happy birthday. I asked her which is worse - a husband who forgets his anniversary altogether or a mother who thinks it's her birthday. She laughed at the two errors.

That's the key. She laughed.
I married what is now called a low maintenance woman. She pretty much defines the term. We've never had much in the way of money, never taken fancy vacations or had nice cars. She's never wished for nice clothes and disdains jewelry. She puts up with my idiotsyncrasies and has been game for just about every crazy adventure I've suggested. I can't imagine an easier person to live with.

Yeah, 39 years is a very long time. We were dumb kids when we got married (20 and 19 years old) who had no business making that big a decision. God in his grace guided us to each other, and while I would NEVER recommend two people getting married that young he has blessed us despite our foolish naivete. Been through some tough stuff, and life being what it is there's certainly more of that to come.
Sure am thankful we'll go through it together!
