"If God had wanted us to vote, he would have given us candidates." - Jay Leno

On my way up to get a haircut this morning I heard a political pundit on NPR talking about the Democrats' effort to make something out of the ads by the Chamber of Commerce. The Democrats charged they were paid for with foreign money, an accusation they've since backed away from. He described that charge as "pretty thin gruel."
That's what we call a turn of phrase, a pithy expression that communicates effectively and vividly. I like it!
Use it in a sentence?
"Much of what passes for biblical preaching these days is pretty thin gruel."

What's with all the braided leather necklaces on the ballplayers in the MLB playoff games? Did I miss something? Is that the hot fashion for guys now?

Did you see the news about the Crystal Cathedral in So. Cal.? They filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy because they're $7.5 million in debt. The creditors set up a committee in April to work with the church but the Cathedral has missed two deadlines since then, so the committee threatened legal action. That prompted the Chapter 11 filing.

My favorite part of the story comes from Jim Penner, who is a board member and son-in-law to Robt. Schuller. He says the church is now avoiding the use of credit altogether and limiting expenses to the $2 million it receives each month in donations and other revenue.

"What we're doing now is we're trying to walk what we preach, we're paying cash for things as we go."

They're just now deciding to walk what they preach?? So it was OK to be hypocritical up until now?

Today I learned that if you heat up leftover lasagna in the microwave and don't cover it with something it pretty much explodes all over the place.
I probably should have known that, huh?

That's all I've got for tonight. And I have to go clean out the microwave.

Good rule of thumb: Cover everything you put in the microwave except water.

And microwaving a bowl of water will soften the lasagna so it's easier to wipe up.
