"Only the mediocre are always at their best." - Jean Giraudeaux

Here's hoping she's dyslexic.

Some soccer fans are like some Christians with the gift of evangelism. They can’t understand why the rest of us don’t share their passion, and because we don’t we’re somehow deficient.

Yesterday afternoon the classical radio station played a piece the announcer said was written by ____ (?) who lived in Belgium. For the life of me I couldn’t picture where Belgium is, except somewhere in the middle of Europe. I felt guilty about that, imagining a European shaking their forefinger at me for being a self-centered American. Then I thought, “Wait a minute. That’s not fair.” I wonder if we put a map of the U.S. in front of the average European how many of them could locate Colorado, or Arkansas or Alabama. Most European nations are the size of many of our states. So someone living in Belgium is in the same proximity to, say, France as someone in Utah is to Kansas. No wonder they know European geography. Besides, they’ve all been fighting with each other for hundreds of years.

So lighten up all you soccer fans and European snobs!
(There. I feel better for getting that off my chest.)

The interior now has a coat of stucco all around, as does the above grade portion of the exterior. It has to cure thoroughly before I can put on a coat of water-proof paint. I’ll be gone M-F of next week, plenty of time for that to happen. A few more necessary steps after that, but the end is in sight. I’ll be swimming laps by January.
Oh, wait. I wasn’t going to tell.

I’m going to Seattle to visit my folks. On one of my trips up there earlier this year to help get them moved into their new place I took a voluntary bump and got $400 in travel vouchers. My plan was to set them aside for use if an emergency trip was necessary because of health issues with either of them. But then I got to thinking: a trip under those circumstances means all the time is dominated by whatever problem necessitated the trip. I enjoy (!) being with my parents, so why not use the vouchers when a visit can be just a visit and our time together relaxed? So I’ll fly up Monday and return Friday. I’m going to stay at my brother’s place, so the only expense is a cheap rental car. I hope to help them with some chores but mostly we’ll just visit. With both of them at 88 years old and their health increasingly fragile, time for that this side of Glory is growing shorter with each passing year. So I’m looking forward to this trip.

This is just silly:
Cat Massage

Brief post tonight, but I’ve got some work I want to get done before Pam comes home. I need to lay out some elements of the Christmas-themed services for the second half of this month. That, and eat some more. This stucco business makes one hungry!

At your skill level, I think swimming laps in that pool would only require one rest break before making it to the other end. You would, however, have to add in lane dividers to hang on.

Laps? Yeah, right. At 9' long, your extended reach (toes touching, arms extended) from one wall would be 17" from touching the other wall. Is this an exercise/rehab pool for the dog?
