"Americans will put up with anything provided it doesn't block traffic." - Dan Rather

On top of each other, or next to each other?

Packers/Steelers on 2/6. That makes it an easy choice. Just think of it this way: Aaron Rodgers or Ben Rothlisberger. Class act or criminal act.

I felt good about this morning. Yeah, I know; write it on the calendar.

Going to Barrett-Jackson last week has renewed my motivation to work on Gerta. The list of things to do is long but not complicated.
As illustrated in this pic of a show-quality restoration, 1967 is the only year they had reverse lights attached to the bumper under the overriders:

They're missing on Gerta, as they are on most 67's. They often got (get) stolen and/or snagged for use on custom rods, etc. But they're one of the distinctive marks of a '67 so I'd like to have them on Gerta. I can get a repro pair from Wolfsburg West for $120. Ugh! So I went hunting on TheSamba.com, the international VW site, and found a guy selling a used set in pretty good condition for $40. He'll ship them for another $15, still less than half the price. Interestingly, he's in Lynnwood, WA, the suburb north of Seattle my parents lived in until they moved into Ida Culver House last year.

No Americans left on either the men's or the women's side at the Australian Open, although the Bryant brothers are still in the doubles. So I'm getting behind Andy Murray, the Scot, and Caroline Wozniacki, the Danish gal. Besides being fun to watch on the court she's a kick off it. She got a little cut on her leg from a fall in her hotel room, but decided to have some fun in the post-match press conference. When asked about it she told them she went for a walk in the park and got attacked by a kangaroo. With a completely straight face she answered questions about the attack for the next 10 minutes, making the whole thing up. And the press totally bought into it. She talked about her little deception during a TV interview with Pam Schriver and (the guy who's name I can never remember). Apparently there were stories in all the major papers about the attack.

OK, it's Sunday night and that means I've demonstrated almost heroic effort by lasting until 9:00. I'm headed for bed!
