Maybe you saw the news. Over the Christmas weekend Hugh Hefner, age 84, got engaged again, this time to a 24-year old named Crystal. Now we get the romantic story of how he popped the question. Crystal reports that they were watching a movie together, "The Littlest Mermaid." It's her favorite movie of all time. Halfway through the movie he pulled out a Little Mermaid music box, and when she opened it she saw the ring inside. How romantic!
Note: I was going to insert a link to a picture of Crystal but she doesn't seem to have posed in anything other than the skimpiest of bikinis.
How do you spell Bimbo?
John Nuiver wins the prize for correctly identifying the Citroen 2Cv. It was once voted the ugliest car ever made. It's the French version of the VW Beetle - an extremely simple design intended to provide basic and reliable transportation for the French masses. The tiny engine was said to go "from zero to 60 in one day."
Citroen made a luxury vehicle, too, the DS Pallas. An older man in the church I pastored in Prunedale owned one. Cool car!
The car didn't have a jack for changing a flat tire. It had a suspension that could be raised and lowered via a lever in the cabin. Up for rough roads, all the way down for freeway driving. (An early version of the low-rider's Chevy, just without individually controlled wheels.) To change a flat tire you raised the car as far up as it would go, put the provided blocks under each corner and then "lowered" the car. Except the blocks prevented the car from going down, so the wheels came up. Voila! Lots of other cool design features, too.John also explained that in England what we call a season they call a series. So when the hosts of Top Gear said it was the last show in the series they meant it was the last show of that season.
Actually, they meant exactly what they said. It just meant something different from what they said.
Oh, you know what I mean.
This morning before I left for that job in town I programmed the DVR to record another episode of Top Gear (the BBC version. I won't bother with more of the U.S. version). We watched it together while we ate dinner. We both laughed until we had tears rolling down our cheeks.
Hugh got a 24-year old total hottie whose favorite movie is Littlest Mermaid. I have a wife slightly older than that who watches a car show with me. And likes it.
I got the better deal.
