Never confuse education with intelligence

The Roman Catholic Church commissioned a study to identify the causes of sexual abuse committed by their clergy. The John Jay College of Criminal Justice study found that mandatory celibacy, pedophilia and homosexuality were not causative factors. Also, boys were abused more often than girls only because priests had more access to them. The real cause was the social upheaval that characterized the 60's, and the fact that Catholic clergy were not adequately trained in seminary to deal with that upheaval.
You think I'm making this up, don't you!
But here it is, in an article on MSNBC.com
Several things come to mind here, including the adage, "He who pays the piper calls the tune."
And how come sexual abuse of prepubescent boys didn't rise in the general population? They didn't get any training for dealing with the turmoil of the 60's.
As hard to believe as this study is, it's toped in its incredulity by the chutzpah of a Church that expects us to believe this nonsense.

Some before/after pics. I've been working on clearing the body in prep for paint, including removing everything from the dash.
It was interesting to pull everything off, to be the first person since some factory worker in West Germany 50 years ago to see the bare dash and the inside surfaces of the various pieces.
Surprises on both ends of the spectrum. The radio looks almost brand new. I'll try to make it functional when it's all put back together, but also have a modern AM/FM/CD player hidden in the glove compartment as I did with Gerta. The trick will be having both connected to a single antenna.

I couldn't get the switch for the wipers to come loose. I'll have to cut through the nut that holds it in place. And one of four screws that held the glove box door in place had stripped threads. No big deal to replace it, but getting it close to body color will be tricky.

The downside of having your sermon done Tuesday is the almost certain likelihood you'll decide during the night that it doesn't work and needs a complete revision. But I'll feel better about it come Sunday. Won't I?

If that lily pond is going to be algae free in seven days it'll have to make rapid progress in the next three!

I spent time up at Paradise Bakery this afternoon sketching out the 9 sessions I'll have at the NW Sr. High camp the end of July. We're going to explore the meaning and implications of Imago Dei - being in the image of God. Sure hope this works!

Remediation companies use hay/straw in ponds to absorb impurities. I've heard it also works on algae. Certainly one of your horse-owner-frineds can give you a small block of it (strap it in a cube) to place in your pond for six days.

Yes, I've read the same thing, specifically barley straw. It just seems like I'd trade algae for little pieces of that floating around everywhere. Maybe if I got a GIANT pair of panty hose and stuffed it in those.
