"My doctor told me to stop having intimate dinners for four. Unless there are three other people." - Orson Welles

I did the compression check on Ilsa's engine this morning.
There isn't any.
O for 4. No compression in any of them. This is not what I was hoping for and means a complete teardown and rebuild. And that requires a machine shop to align bore the crank. Will it need new pistons, or valves, or...?
I'm going to call a shop in Tucson with a good rep for building VW engines and see what they'll charge to do the case only. I take off everything and deliver just the block to them for the rebuild. That may be the wiser course, depending on their fee.
Bummer. I was really hoping this was a running engine. Oh well.

I have too much stuff in my head, incl. my sermon and lesson for second hour. I don't want to get to Monday and be disgusted with how it all went, so I guess I'll spend a lot of tomorrow going over and over and over it all. It's going to be way too hot to do much of anything else.

In addition to a standing army for defense against foreign threats and a police force to protect against internal whackos, and the issuing and management of a currency, a govt. needs to establish a justice system. A country needs courts to deal with those internal whackos and prisons for the worst of them.
Alas, here again issues arise. If the legal system requires lawyers, well, we've got a bucket load of trouble right there. Will legal outcomes depend on the quality of the representation the defendant can afford? What crimes warrant imprisonment? Should those prisons be run by the state? Why not outsource that like we do power plants or road construction?
I've decided not to run for President. It's way too complicated. Makes rebuilding a VW engine look like child's play.

In business news:
Apple Inc. is now worth more than the top 32 European banks - combined.
Burger King is dropping Mr. Creepy, aka their king clown. It's part of a remake that will feature healthy food. Why??
The govt. is making more noise that a key to getting the economy rolling again is increased consumer spending. Where will we get the money to spend? We could borrow it but the lenders have the nasty habit of expecting repayment. So I guess the only other option is for the govt. to give it to us. Where will they get it from?
Hmmmm
