You're not stuck in traffic. You ARE traffic.
Some days are about Plan B. This was one of them.
I was out the door at 6:30 for my bike ride, which was supposed to be the 12-mile speed route. Up at the light I pulled alongside another rider who looked to be in his 40's and decided I'd go up the hill with him instead of turning right. That duplicated yesterday's mid-mileage route but I so rarely come across someone to ride with I decided to go for it. We had good conversation the whole time but still kept the tempo up. He's on vacation so I may come across him again tomorrow.
That was a nice deviation from the agenda.
Got home, took off the cycling gear and went out to the garage to do the right front wheel on Ilsa. Fifteen minutes into it I knew that wasn't going to happen.
Up until 1967 VW used ball bearings for the wheels (in '67 they switched to roller bearings). Each wheel has an inner and outer bearing, and on either side of each bearing is what's called a race - a very hard and highly polished metal ring in which the ball bearing rolls. It is NOT supposed to look like this:
That's a ball point pen for perspective. The pitting is from the bearing being overtightened within the two chases, or not tightened enough (and therefore wobbling), or, most likely, moisture sitting in there during the 30 years this car sat in a barn up north.
Grrr!
Bearings and chases must be purchased as a set and cheap Chinese bearings are a total waste of money. Accordingly, I am out $76 for one German bearing and its two chases which should arrive later this week.
So, Plan B, I cleaned, painted and reinstalled the starter motor. Oh, and I also painted a spot on the side of the house in the process. I choose to think of it as a kind of beauty mark on 20005 Welk Dr.
My routine is to choose the songs we'll sing the next Sunday at Pathway on Tuesday or Wednesday. I drop the sound files from iTunes into Garage Band and then edit each as necessary. Many of them need a fade inserted shortly before the file's end to replace the frequent repetition of the last phrase and a sometimes long coda.
A few days ago I upgraded my MacBook Pro from the two-generations old Leopard OS to the now one-generation back Snow Leopard. That requires updates to much of the software included on all Macs, a process that goes fairly quickly and is free.
Today I discovered that something in the updating procedure causes Garage Band to now reject any song downloaded from iTunes. The drag-and-drop has turned into drag-and-bounce, right back to iTunes.
So, Plan B, we're back to manual fades on any song I hadn't already edited and saved. Drat!
I'm doing two-a-days. Gotta get back in shape after vacation cinnamon rolls and too much good food at camp. Morning rides are followed by afternoon trips to the gym. And I've almost entirely cut out supper, but I don't know if three meals a day is gonna cut it.
Have the sermon calendar laid out for the rest of the year. The time spent doing that takes the pressure off deciding each week what's up next. We're going to start a study of Romans next month.
But at any point in time God can insert Plan B. He's in charge and his will is perfect.

Is that "Welk Drive" as in Lawrence Welk?
Mike H.
Yep, as in Lawrence Welk. Lots of streets here in Sun City are named after people who were big names among the retirement set back then. I wonder how many people get "Chisholm Ave." and the like.
