Hell hath no fury....
I've installed a new radiator, fan and hoses on the Rambler. I've also replaced most of the ignition system. Now it's time to pull and rebuild the carburetor. But what if it won't start after all of that? I won't know if the problem is with the ignition system or the carb. (The radiator could safely be ruled out.) So this morning I decided to fire her up. If she runs now and won't later I'll know it's my carb work.
She runs!! In fact, she runs very smoothly. The points are thin and burned but I'm looking into replacing them with an electronic ignition module, so I won't put in new points, at least not now.
Junior Seau committed suicide today. I haven't read any speculation in the news reports so far, but I won't be surprised if he also turns out to have brain damage from repeated concussions. Several other NFL players who killed themselves showed evidence of that.
We got a "get to know you" letter in today's mail from Menke Funeral Home. Do they know something I don't, or do they just figure trolling in Sun City makes good economic sense?
My Bible broke last Sunday. During my sermon one of the quires came loose from the binding. Very irritating. Because my primary Bible (I have several of different types for different purposes) is like a hammer to a carpenter, when one wears out I replace it with a more expensive edition than I would otherwise purchase. I get a leather binding and good paper so it will hold up for several years. I write lots of notes in the margin as I study so that the next time I look at that passage I'll remember what I learned. It's too difficult to transfer all of those notes into the next Bible, so I want to make the change as seldom as possible.
I got this one a year ago, and it should have lasted a LOT longer. I'll use it with care and hang on for awhile, but my experience has been that once that first quire comes loose others quickly follow. I may go with a less expensive edition this time so that when it fails I won't be out as much money. And I may take this opportunity to switch to a different translation. I like the accuracy of the NASB but sometimes the readability issues are a problem when I'm preaching. I did some research this morning on the ESV and will give it a closer look. It's available as a free download for my Kindle so that may be a good starting place.
I read today that the U.S. now has the highest corporate tax rate of any industrialized nation. We hear a lot about companies going overseas because of cheaper labor costs, but as we learned again earlier this week with Apple, many create corporate offices in foreign countries because of the more favorable tax rates. They'd be crazy not to.
At some point lowering the corporate tax rate increases income from corporate taxes as companies find having overseas HQ's more cost than benefit.
Don't expect to hear anything about that soon.

...there must be a rejoinder about the pastor and his quire, but it's just not coming to me.
I love the ESV. Something about the way many passages are translated make much more sense to me.
