"I have often depended on the blindness of strangers." - Adrienne Gusoff
This morning Rob and I went out to Desert Valley Auto Parts. Score!!
Louise needs brake drums at all four corners. They're available from Rock Auto but at a fairly steep price - $390 plus shipping, which would be substantial, methinks, for a package that heavy. Besides their yard 15 miles from our house, DVAP has another in Rock Canyon City, 30 miles north of here, and that's where all the Rambler parts are. The guy seems fairly sure they'll have a set in that yard and will put in an order to have them sent down on the next truck, the middle of next week - $100! "What happens," I ask, "if these four also have worn too far to be turned?" The guy says if the people at whatever place I take them for turning say they're beyond spec I can return them and get my money back.
Hard to argue with that deal!
We spent about an hour just walking around the yard. Rob was looking for rear quarter panels for his '69 Pontiac 2+2 and found a donor car, but decided not to pull the trigger. Now that he knows where to get a pair he can decide later if he should go that direction. His car has a decent set, they just show evidence of being repaired. And his will be a show quality car when he's done.
On the way home we stopped by the storage yard where I parked the teardrop three months ago. I wanted to make sure the tarp was still on (protection from the killer sun) and everything was in order. If not I need the time I've got over the next three weeks to fix whatever.
It's fine. The tarp is beginning to fall apart where it goes over the top of the trailer but that's OK. I'll put a new tarp on it when we get back and put a portion of this tarp underneath it to double up for more protection.
But my first thought when I saw it??
Wow! That thing is tiny! (Rob: "Is that it??? It's really small!")
The Garmin GPS I ordered on Amazon came today. We're getting close!
So did my new Bible, also from Amazon. My NASB, less than two years old, had another quire come loose from the binding this week, so now everything from Romans 7 on is basically loose leaf. Grrrr. So I ordered an ESV - small, cheap - to see how I like that translation. It gets very good reviews for both accuracy and readability. The former on a par with the NASB and the latter equal to (IMO) the NIV. We'll see how it goes.
For the 48 hours prior to my chemical stress test on Monday at 2 p.m. I can't have any caffeine, even the residual amount in decaf coffee. No Diet Coke, either. Or chocolate. I do fine without those; I won't have any cravings. But I'll miss my two morning cups of half-caff and my Sunday afternoon bath in Diet Coke.
Layin' low with Rob & Leslie after dinner. I'll go over my stuff for tomorrow morning but mostly we'll just visit.
Happy Father's Day, dad! Love you.
