I'm not saying kill all the stupid people. Just remove warning labels and let nature take its course.

I assume this is a static display, but wouldn't it make an extremely cool wall clock?

Did you see the news story about a lady finding what they think is a pair of human lungs on a sidewalk in L.A.? A spokesperson for the coroner's office described it as "a little strange."
You gotta wonder what strikes him as really strange.

We have some good friends from MI coming to visit for the weekend. He's a car guy, too, and specializes in GTO's. At the top of the list of activities is a trip to Desert Valley Auto Parts, one of the biggest auto salvage yards in the country. It's about 15 miles from our house on the northern edge of Phoenix. The place has their own TV show on Versus, along the lines of that pawn shop program and the motorcycle shop shows. It occurred to me yesterday that they might have usable drums for the Rambler. The four I took off the car are all too worn to be turned, and new drums aren't cheap. So if I can find any at DVAP it's well worth the trip! I think the brake system is the only thing keeping it from being road worthy.

Someone asked me when we first got the Rambler if we'd name it. I think it's time.
I thought of several possibilities but ruled them out because we either knew people by that name (would they consider it a compliment or a slam?) or the name didn't seem suitable for some other reason. The VW got a German name, Ilsa, but I couldn't think of anything that fit a Rambler based on nationalism. Hmmm.
Pam said she had to approve any name I settled on, and the one I suggested passed muster.
So, without further ado...
Louise.
Feminine, light, and an older name you don't hear anymore - like Rambler.
So, do we name the trailer Thelma? They are, together, a road trip.

I was happy to see the L.A. Kings win the Stanley Cup. Now for the NBA finals. I haven't watched any of the playoffs but I might watch some of this series...IF OKC puts a beat-down on Miami.

In a month Josh will compete in the Crossfit Nationals in Carson, CA, a suburb of L.A. He's part of a six person team from their gym that qualified at regionals in CO a month ago. Here's a shot that showed up on Facebook today of him during one of their training sessions. You can see the obvious father/son resemblance.

I spent time at lunch working on the itinerary for our vacation IN THREE WEEKS!! I plotted out the Oregon state parks we'll visit, the time at each, and the distance/time between them. We're only going to stay at two parks, Cape Lookout south of Tillamook in the northern part of OR, and Cape Blanco north of Port Orford in southern part of the state. Both are right on the coast but also have extensive trails for walking in the woods. And both are near small, quirky towns that make the OR coast fun. From Cape Blanco we'll have a long day's drive to a KOA (ugh) in Cloverdale, CA. There are no state parks in that area of the state and we need to be that two hours north of San Francisco so Pam can catch a flight from SFO early Sunday morning back to Phoenix. Then I'll make the drive back on my own (she has to get back to work Tuesday), stopping to visit some important friends along the way.

My drive up to Seattle will be something of a killer. I need to do it in two and a half days so I can be there in time to speak at a conference Thursday evening. The plan is Sacramento Tuesday night (750 miles), the Portland area the next (570 miles), and then Seattle by noon on the third day. Ideally I'd divide the Phoenix to Portland drive in half, but there is nothing out there. Nothing. So pushing into Sac is the only real option. If I leave in the wee hours of the morning Tuesday I can get the worst of the Sonora desert driving done before the sun comes up. There's no avoiding the heat in the central CA valley. Just gotta deal with it. Pam will fly into Seattle Friday and we'll spend a couple of days with my folks. Then it's just-the-two-of-us once we leave Seattle Sunday morning and head for the Oregon coast, teardrop in tow.
