"I hate women because they always know where things are." - James Thurber

Serving suggestion

The recent winds blew one of the strips off the patio cover, so at 7 a.m. I climbed up there to put it back in place. I quickly realized the galvanized nails I used when I built it three years ago were pulling loose on all the strips. So I spent the next two hours drilling pilot holes and driving deck screws through the strips and into the joists. NOT pleasant, thanks to temps in the 90's and a dew point near 70. But it's done, and the wind can now huff, and puff, but it won't blow my patio cover down.

While up there I spotted three javalinas in the back yard two doors down. In the six years we've lived here that's my first sighting, and cause for concern. They are about 24" tall, weigh about 50 lbs., travel in groups, and are mean! Unlike the coyotes we see frequently, javalinas seem to have no fear of humans, and have attacked people locally, putting some in the hospital. But we've only heard of them wandering around Sun City West, about eight miles west of us, where they have more golf courses and citrus trees (they feed on fallen fruit, among other things).

I went to the cardiologist today for the follow-up to my angiogram/stent procedure last week. Left two hours later thoroughly disgusted. Not with the care! I like this dr. and trust him completely. He communicates well and takes time to answer questions. What irritates me is that having great cholesterol numbers, exercising vigorously and being very fit, never doing the harmful stuff like smoking or drinking excessively, and only eating donuts when they're within 24', and I still have coronary artery disease. Getting a stent was just the beginning of the routine. Let the fun begin.
Good grief.

Tons of hype on NBC to watch their prime time coverage of premier events tonight. I can hardly wait to hear how we did in women's gymnastics, if Michael Phelps got his record setting medals, and how Missy Franklin did in the 200m event.
Except that we've all known each of those for hours, having read the results everywhere, including on NBC's news site.
Olympic coverage: FAIL

OK, I've got further thoughts on the topic of the evangelical Christian vis a' vis same sex marriage and public discourse. But frankly, I'm not in the mood. I promise to be all mellowed out tomorrow evening. Besides, there's heart stopping Olympic coverage to watch.
(Maybe not the best figure of speech in this case.)

Jeff and I had a group of javelina living in the wash right across from our house. They ate most of the flowering plants in my front yard down to the roots. I put new plants in and they ate them too. So watch out, especially if you have succulents.

Praying for you. :(

Sounds like itsw time to become an AZ handgun owner with a CWP/CPL. I could give you an old .22 my middle brother gave me (he used to shoot crazy roosters and chickens with it) but a javelina might require a .38 or better (I've got a .40 but wouldn't part with it).
