I'm afraid of a world run by adults who never got spanked as kids and got trophies just for participating.

My friend Jen sent this to me knowing I'm always looking for good blog pics. This one fits!
(and that anon quote at the top came from FB via one of the gals at Pathway)

In the first book, "Fiddler's Gun," the crew mutinied against a brutal captain. Before doing so they signed a round robin. They took a piece of parchment, drew a circle on it, and inside that circle wrote their intentions and reasons. Then the sailors came up, one by one, and signed somewhere around the circle. That way, if they were ever caught and taken to trial, it would be impossible to tell who the leaders were; nobody's name was at the top.
I wondered if that was legit or something the author made up. Turns out it's legit, and originated with the French. Our "robin" comes from their word "ribbon," from the appearance of the names around that circle. Now it's used for anything that occurs in a circular manner.

I'm about half way through the second book, "Fiddler's Green." It requires more suspension of disbelief, but is just as easy and enjoyable. Summer reading. Because the middle section of the book is set on the Mediterranean I'm learning about that part of the world during the late 1700's.

Got all the outdoor tasks done by 8 a.m., and it was already 90.

I didn't want the American to win this morning but Serena put a beat-down on Sharapova to get the gold.
Remember when the Olympics was an amateur competition?
cf. men's basketball.

What one word would you use to fill in the blank for the following:

  1. German ________
  2. French _______
  3. American ________
  4. Italian ________
If I'm going to take a blood thinner for the next 12 months I may have to switch to an electric razor. Yikes!

Got a FedEx package today. Together with stuff that arrived yesterday we're closer to getting Louise on the road. Here are rear brake shoes, four wheel cylinders, two front bearing seals and two rear drums. The front drums are on backorder and Rock Auto will send me an email when they're in, or I can get them - slightly more expensive - from O'Reilly's up the road.
If I can deal with the heat I'll chip away at the work for an hour or two each morning and be driving a '66 Rambler in the not-too-distant future. That is unless I come across something else wrong.

Methinks sometimes the key to avoiding the temptation of the "greener" grass is to put up walls instead of split rail fences.

Pam worked today and has to again tomorrow. Neither of us likes it when she has to work Sundays but it looks like very soon, due to a change in her counterpart's schedule, she'll again get almost every Sunday off.
She left a frozen pizza for my dinner tonight and tomorrow night. The problem: I ate up almost all of the German chocolate cake last night. What's left is simply not adequate for tonight's dessert, never mind tomorrow night's. So, just home from the gym, I'm thinkin' a trip to Basha's for some Chianti and whatever looks good from that table over by the bakery.
Maybe a shower first.

The electrophysiologist (yeah, that's for real) thinks I should wait until after Tuesday's procedure. OK.
