"Write a wise saying and your name will live forever." - Anonymous

USAToday.com has a section in the upper right corner titled, "Most popular..." Beneath it are the headlines for stories getting the most hits. But the box is small enough that often only the first few words of the headline fit, and the remaining portion is indicated with an ellipsis (...)
If you hold your cursor over the headline the full text appears in a pop-up.
One of this morning's: "Vermont farmer uses tractor to smash...."
I couldn't not hover over that one. And did NOT expect to read "...police cruisers."
Those wild and crazy Vermonters.

I watched some of the men's trampoline competition early this morning. Scary. And it's not like they never miss. In the short time I watched at least four guys missed the trampoline, and one was so far off that he even missed the 3' same-level padded area around it, landing on the mats on the floor.

The Olympic events so far have been interesting, though the tape delay coverage is at least annoying, especially on the west coast, in an age when results are posted almost immediately. But for me the good stuff starts today with track and field events. I hope London weather doesn't make a mess of them.

In the last 12 hours I've hung up on Sarah Palin and our AZ governor, Jan Brewer. Imagine, Craig MacDonald hanging up on women calling him. There was a time when no one would have thought that possible.

At 6 p.m. it was 113 degrees.

After much confusion and a series of back-and-forth calls with the cardiologist and the pharmacy I think we have the medication issues straightened out. But something in me hates taking pills. I can't explain it. My head understands their value but it really annoys me, and it increases in proportion to the number of meds. Which means that since this whole heart business started I've been pretty annoyed.
In addition to the thyroid med I've taken since my mid-20's and the blood pressure med they put me on in my mid-30's I now take another blood pressure med, a blood thinner, and a cholesterol med.
This is what OLD people do.
And I may get another med as a result of next Tuesday's test.
Somebody I know takes a fist full of supplements every morning. She has one of those AARP-approved plastic cases with a compartment for each day, and each compartment is faithfully filled each Saturday night with a rainbow of ... I have no idea.
I heard a doctor say that Americans have the most nutritionally rich sewage in the world.
Why is it some people hate taking pills and others go looking for reasons to take more?

I'm looking forward to Sunday. Schools here start the first week of August so almost everybody will be back from their vacations, and after taking the month of July off to give our teachers a break our second hour classes will restart. The rooms will be full of little kids with all the fun and energy they bring to Pathway. Good times!
Plus, we'll hear from Liz, who just got back from India. She's a med student at ASU who spent two weeks in Bangalore working on her senior project. She's working a very simple book on mental illness that can be distributed in the villages where the very poor typically persecute the mentally ill out of superstition and ignorance. We prayed Liz and her mom (the whole family attends Pathway) over and back, so we're looking forward to getting a report.

Just a few small tasks to get done between now and then, and thankfully none of them involve being outside past 8 a.m.
