"If my ceiling fan could hold my weight I would never be bored again." - Will Ferrell

From a friend's Facebook page today.

About a year ago the White House started an online program where anyone can post a petition for others to sign. When the signature total reaches 100,000 the White House will post a response.
[Note: they never said when they'd respond, and they've let some that met the threshold sit for months.]
A petition to deport Justin Bieber, here from Canada on a performer's visa, has reached 111,000. Please, Mr. President....

On the NBC news tonight they talked about the minimum wage and the President's executive order to raise it to $10.10 for certain federal employees. As part of the story they interviewed the two owners of the pizza shop the President mentioned in his speech. They said their business is growing but they had trouble finding people willing to work for minimum wage, so they raised their starting wage to $10 an hour. "What's been the response?" One of the guys said they now have a stack of applications an inch thick.

Isn't that the way it's supposed to work? I'm under the impression that in a free market economy the law of supply and demand determines prices, including the cost of workers. I don't know the history of the minimum wage and don't care enough to look it up. But at some point increasing it seems like an artificial manipulation of the dynamic. Inflation?

I've got all the stuff to do the taxes. OK, not "do" the taxes, but assemble all the stuff for the tax guy to do them. I just hate that task. Can't work up the motivation to tackle it. Maybe tomorrow. Probably not.

My goal is to stay awake long enough to watch the new episode of Duck Dynasty.
