"I speak Spanish to God, Italian to women, French to men, and German to my horse." - George V

From a friend's Facebook post today. I chuckled.

A short post tonight because of an elder meeting in 90 minutes. And I know I won't feel like posting when I get home.

I got the axle out of the back of the Falcon. I took the brake drums off, reducing the weight by 40 lbs. or so. Then I took the springs off and dropped it another +/- 150 lbs. Those things are heavy! And a pain to get off. I spent almost two hours getting the four bolts on one side removed. It required my breaker bar plus a 3' length of pipe for the whole length of the U-bolt threads. I decided that made no sense at all so I got out my angle grinder and cut the U-bolts off the other side of the axle. Five minutes, tops. I'll use that approach on the back axle, too. The price of new U-bolts is nothing compared to the grief of wrestling with these.

After removing that weight I was able to get the axle out myself (I'm really big and strong). Just about broke my foot in the process when the axle rotated horizontally in my hand once I got it out of the back of the wagon, but it now rests on sawhorses ready for cleaning and painting.

Did all that first thing this morning before the temps reached their afternoon, mid-90 highs. Drove up the hill and got a spot at Starbucks this afternoon to work on my sermon. It's taking shape. If this weather continues that will be the new pattern but we are a bit early for these temps.

Now VW has issued a "stop sell" order for a bunch of their cars, the day after Toyota recalled a few million of theirs.
I'm telling ya', old cars are the way to go! Simple, straightforward (or straight backward), and any doofus can work on them. I'm evidence of that.

OK, I gotta get my head into this meeting. We work very well together but there's work to be done. We're getting ready for some special events that require some extra planning, including an Easter service on the lawn in front of the school, with lots of publicity in the surrounding subdivision already in place.

More of substance tomorrow night.
Maybe.
