We're in a stretch of nasty weather. The temps are down a bit - into the upper 90's - but the humidity is up a lot, pushing dew points into the mid-60's to lower-70's range.
Today my body wanted to sleep. I didn't wake up until 5:00 and completely lost consciousness for 45 minutes after lunch. In between I tried to do some brain work but it flatly refused. So I decided to get totally stupid and started pruning the orange tree in the back yard.
I hate that job, even in conducive weather.
I confess that I don't understand what's going on in Ferguson, MO. If we assume the cop acted inappropriately - even criminally - I still can't come up with justification for the violence that followed. Dr. King would not approve.
The moral high ground has been surrendered and the opportunity lost. Reports that the looting and violence has been the work of outsiders taking advantage of the situation doesn't excuse the residents who haven't spoken out against those thugs.
And while I understand that the federal govt. has an interest in seeing justice done, in the absence of evidence there's systemic abuse of power by the Ferguson authorities it looks a whole lot like political opportunism...at best.
Today's workout included 100 air squats.
Ouch.

A good start for background on this issue is:

There are a lot of interesting resources there to provide a balanced background on the issue of race, crime, imprisonment, enforcement, and the police.

Mike, read the article and found it enlightening. A complex issue and I found myself agreeing with much of what he wrote. But I was referring to the riots that are a throwback to those of the late 60's in Watts and elsewhere. A few years later those communities agreed they only did damage to themselves with those riots and did very little to change the system. Destroying businesses in the afflicted communities only adds another layer of disadvantage.
