"My favorite animal is steak." - Fran Lebowitz

And you know the caption, right?

What a lazy day. The weather is beastly, with temps in the low 100's and a dew point hanging right at 70. We're supposed to get significant rain tomorrow and Monday - up to an inch or more out of this system - and it can't start soon enough. We need to clear out some of this humidity.

Before it got too hot I pruned shrubs in the front yard. I've been neglecting the landscaping in favor of work on the truck, but until I get the engine back I'm stuck, so it's a good opportunity for catching up.
I did purchase an air cleaner from a guy in Idaho who is also on the old truck forum. Paid a very fair price and he said he'd ship it today. It will take some cleaning up and painting but is correct for this truck and year.

About a month ago we started working with a financial advisor, a (too) young guy named Chad that I met at Starbucks.
We've never had any finances to advise, but have known for some time that we're approaching an age when we either have a plan or run the risk of getting caught in a mess of our own making.
Chad is very personable and we're impressed with his knowledge and approach. We're meeting with him again on Tuesday and I spent a couple of hours this morning getting everything together for that appointment. What a hassle. Sometimes doing the right thing is no fun at all. And because it involved working with numbers I'm pretty sure I got some of it wrong.
Who saves the declaration pages of their auto policy??

We also spent time after lunch creating new wills and legal & medical powers of attorney docs using Legal Zoom. It was pretty painless and very reasonably priced but I goofed up something there, too. The web site said I need to call on Monday.
Our previous wills  were about 35 years old, and very outdated. The boys were still little guys and we had to designate someone to raise them.

The President said he was going to take executive action on the immigration issue by the end of the summer. Today his administration announced he'll delay it until after the fall midterms so the Republicans can't politicize it. Which is to say, they'd determined taking action before those elections was going to cost his party votes, and maybe seats.
So much for principle over politics.

I didn't want to get gas on my way in to church in the morning because a) my head is all focused on my day's work and I don't want to deal with extra tasks, and b) we hope it's pouring down rain by then. So this afternoon I went out in the aforementioned beastly weather to fill up the Falcon. OK, not fill it up, but that's another story for another time.

On the way to the cheap station I drive by a Unitarian Universalist church. If I wasn't busy on Sunday mornings I'd go to one of their services. What kind of people attend? I'm guessing old, rich liberals, but maybe not. What do they do? Can't sing hymns 'cause they tend to speak from a particular viewpoint, not well suited for a place with Universalist in the name. Read the Bible? Nope, can't do that, either.
You could take an offering!
And have a speaker. But what could they say that would have any significance? You can only repeat, "We're all right, we're all brothers & sisters, and we all gotta get along" so many times before it becomes pretty predictable.
In order to be Unitarians you have to be Universalist, and if you're a Universalist it seems to me like there isn't much to talk about. I suppose you can talk about preserving peace and saving the environment, but the raging consumerist who is a lifetime member of the NRA is just as correct as the green who won't step on an ant, or we can't be Unitarians.

Some day when I'm not a preacher I'll slip in the back and see what's up.
