The Jimmy Hoffa cake
This was a wheel spinning day. I had such grand plans.
The easy part was supposed to be running the fuel line from the tank behind the seat to the engine compartment and the fuel pump located there. Nope. After tube cutting, bending, re-bending, and two trips to the parts store I still gotta get another fitting tomorrow.
But the good news: the brakes are DONE. No leaks, no air in the lines, and the correct return spring installed. Got the starter spring installed, too.
One of the gals at church and her family live in a rural area west of here, and she started raising goats several months ago. She mentioned on Facebook this afternoon that the vet had been out to check on the health of her herd, including blood draws, and do a pregnancy check on her young does. I asked if the rabbit died. She had no idea what I was talking about.
Do you?
Oh, how things have changed.
The Cardinals are in the playoffs. Probably won't get past the first round, but just making an appearance is a triumph. Because of injuries they're on their third QB for the season and he's a guy they had to go out and get at the last minute. Teams usually carry three QB's, they only have two with the latest injury, and there has been lots of speculation about who they'd get to be the backup to the backup. Lots of people here thought they should make a call to Kurt Warner and he admitted to being somewhat surprised that the idea occurred to him. (He dismissed it as unrealistic.) Tim Tebow's name got mentioned, too, but that went just as far.
Now Vladdy Putin is pushing Sweden's buttons, flying one of his military's planes so close to a Swedish airliner that evasive action was required. And the military plane had turned off its transponder, so it wasn't visible on radar. What's this guy up to? Why would he be this provocative?
But it's not all bad news on the international scene. The U.N. delegates agreed on a plan to address climate change. So now we have that problem solved. Thank goodness for the U.N.
Sometimes things come in strings, series. You hit all the lights on your route when they're green (yeah, like that would happen). Pandora plays six of your favorites in a row. The barista at Starbucks gets your name right, there's no wait at the barber's, AND you discover the price of gas has dropped again as you pull into the station.
Or the reverse of all those.
Randomness. Doesn't mean the end of the world is imminent or that world peace will descend tomorrow.
It happens.
Speaking of patterns, in the last three or four days I've learned of a half dozen friends, near and far, who are going through very difficult stuff. All unrelated and all sad, especially at this time of year.
I've reference Cornelius Platinga's book, "Not the Way It's Supposed to Be - a Breviary of Sin." An excellent book with a very appropriate title.
This is not what God intended, and the birth of his Son was a key step in putting things right. The next key step came 33 years later when that Son died on a Roman cross to conquer sin and provide salvation.
Christmas - part of a plan to restore.
