"The first time I sang in the church choir 200 people changed their religion." - Fred Allen

I gave in to the pain and went to the dentist this afternoon. It's never a good sign when he looks in your mouth and says, "Oh my."
Two root canals on adjacent teeth. He did the excavation part this afternoon and I'll go back in two weeks so the endodontist can do the crown work. It's still painful but they told me to expect that for 24 hours or so.

The pile of parts on the patio is shrinking rapidly as I install things on the truck. I was pretty careful about tagging & bagging as I disassembled and used up several boxes of various sized zip-lock bags. But as I was going through things yesterday before placing an parts order I came across a 12" bar with a large pin protruding, sans any identification.
Took this picture and posted it on the truck restoration forum. An hour later came the answer: it's the pivot arm for the parking break.
That forum has been a lot of help through this project!

We didn't hit 60 degrees today. I worked under the truck, doing battle to install the flywheel inspection cover and an hour later my fingers and toes were going numb. (I won that battle!)

This morning I learned how to powder coat! I had painted the air cleaner but it was already getting little chips in the paint. I had asked Jill, a tough old broad at the metal shop who I knew could teach me, if she'd be willing and she readily agreed. It's not tricky, just requires the right equipment, which they certainly have. Sand blast the part, do NOT touch it, hang it by a heavy wire from a metal rack, connect a grounding wire, and spray it with powder of the desired color while holding down a red button that puts a charge into the powder. (I think that's how it works.) Then put it in an oven for 30-40 minutes where it bakes at something like 250 degrees. And what an oven! The witch could put Hansel and Gretel and 16 of their closest friends inside this thing. It's 6' tall and 4'x4'. The air cleaner came out looking better than the day it left the factory and it won't chip, peel, or otherwise degrade for 1,000 years.
Now I'm thinking of other things I could powder coat. This is cool!

CBS 60 Minutes did the whole hour on the Pope and the Vatican. Not exactly what you'd call investigative journalism. More like a love fest.
You might find this interesting.

Tiny House Nation is back with new episodes. If you get the FYI network check it out. Monday nights. Each week they run the most recent episode and a new one.

I followed a rabbit trail this morning and ended up reading about smart house technology. Interesting, and methinks it's the wave of the future. But much of the technology is already available and can be retro-fitted. A central hub uses the home's wi-fi system to communicate with a laptop or communicate via a smart phone. Door locks are still in development and not perfected yet, but having a key fob will unlock your front door as you come up the driveway. You can unlock the door for a friend via your smart phone even though you're in Europe. Smart tech crock pots are available that can be turned on/off or adjusted via your smart phone. Lights, thermostats, HVAC.... Turn them on/off as you want, or program them for specific times. Going on a vacation? Program the lights to come on in a pattern that makes it looks someone is inside. TV and/or radio, too. Sensors will alert authorities if there's a break-in or fire, and cameras will send video to your phone.
Mind boggling for someone old enough to remember rotary phones and party lines.
