"A man is already halfway in love with any woman who listens to him." - Brendan Behan
It was supposed to rain today. 75% Chance. Didn't get a drop.
On the other hand, we also didn't get two feet of snow with hurricane winds.
I heard a BBC interview with Lance Armstrong in which he talked about the fallout from his use of PED's and the penalties he received. I don't want to get all Freudian, but when he spoke about how very, very badly he treated others during that time he spoke of himself in the third person. It was as if he couldn't say "I did that."
Sure didn't hear any humility or sense of personal guilt.
I'm pretty sure I walked on the dark side today.
I left the house about 7:45 to get gas and then go to the highly regarded transmission shop to talk to Carlos about the shifting problems with the Dodge truck. (Yeah, it's weird that I have to specify which truck.) After getting some info from him on possible causes of the shifting problems and potential solutions I headed north of town to get the four used tires I bought after the auction at a salvage yard next door. From there around the corner to get them mounted and balanced. By prior arrangement with Shane, the very nice young guy who runs the car part of the auction, I got that done at no cost.
From there I drove to the south end of town to a place called Klassy Auto Glass off of 35th and Broadway. This is not a neighborhood you'll want to take your wife or children. Broadway down there is a long stretch of junk yards, used tires stores, and auto glass shops, all surrounded by 6' fences topped with barbed wire. Klassy was recommended by Jason, the guy who runs the business side of the auction and who is, I think, Shane's boss.
By prior arrangement I got a brand new windshield installed for $100 cash in less than 45 minutes. That's simply not possible. Either something's fishy or places like Safelite Auto Glass are making a small fortune on each install. But you know, sometimes it's better not to ask questions, especially of a guy who's 6' tall and weighs something north of 250 lbs, with tats covering the better part of his body.
On the way home, feeling pretty good about my morning's work, the truck hesitated and bucked pulling away from a couple of the lights. And the check engine light came on.
Back to Carlos at the tranny shop who hooked it up to his code reader.
Long story short, two throttle sensors are kaput, which accounts for both the check engine light and the shifting problems. By noon tomorrow he'll have both of those replaced and a service done on the transmission, the latter a case of my decision to get all maintenance items up to snuff.
Tires, new windshield, a mechanical problem solved, and a tranny service, with a total out-of-pocket that has me feeling very blessed.
OK, I'm headed into town for a meeting over some good Mexican food. The Diet Coke I'll have with my meal will help keep me awake on the drive home. If not the caffeine, then the desperate urge to empty my bladder.
